Just a reminder, the projected gain is 2-3MM annual. That is important, but not huge.

The Dude of WV made a pretty good case that it could wind up being more like $10m. Renegotiated contract and tier 3 money.

Which would be offset by larger travel expenses.

My understanding is Big XII assists in minor sports travel..

May 16, 2012, 3:44 PM

...which would mitigate that problem.

you're right, but 1% mitigation is still mitigation.

i'm interested in how they break down; the only information i could find was "appropriate reimbursement"; "appropriate" is a funny word.

Assuming Clemson joins with FSU...

May 16, 2012, 1:23 PM [ in reply to Re: imagine the facilities clemson could build with Big12ish $$s ]

the jump would be substantially more than $3M. Let's assume that the renegotiated SEC deal will provide each school with $25M annually. It's reasonable to think that a conference with Texas, Oklahoma, FSU, Clemson, WVU, Oklahoma State, TCU, K-State, etc. would fetch that, too, which would make it a $8M jump (possibly more with a playoff).

If Clemson can afford to cough up 20 million dollars...

May 16, 2012, 1:21 PM

to get out of the ACC, not to mention what it would cost to get into another conference, then the money is already there to build facilities. If Clemson really cared, it would find the money. I don't remember much of a fund-raising drive for the indoor practice facility, yet they're forcing other sports to raise their own money to improve their facilities. It's all a matter of priorities.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The other sports SHOULD have to raise their own money

May 16, 2012, 3:48 PM

to improve their facilities...Why should football have to bankroll the ENTIRE AD?
