Bryant or Israel
Dec 9, 2014, 4:13 PM
|

Who wins the back up QB spot? I feel that Bryant has a higher ceiling and is the best fit for this offense but I also think Israel is more polished at this point. He has a very accurate arm but not very powerful. Bryant is way more mobile and has a powerful arm. My gut feeling is that Israel might be more prepared to be the back up in 2015 but Bryant will pass him by the time Watson leaves.

well they both come in Jaunary and we know DW won't be in spring practice, so by spring game this question should be answered.

They both seem capable. Whoever looks like a big time starter though needs to redshirt next year and the other needs to be the backup.

for a full season (or 2?), i just can't imagine either 18-year old would displace nick as back-up by opening game..granted, this year seems the exception to that presumption, although even dw didn't do it by then..and nick may get serious snaps against the sooners, prior to kelly or tucker entering college..he certainly has the experience edge..but (ahem), talent sometimes trumps experience.

walks on campus (while DW is rehabbing from surgery). Bryant will probably even redshirt. He's very raw in terms of passing ability. He'll take a few years to learn mechanics, reading defenses, route progressions, etc.

Both great players. I'll take both because we need them.I think this year should teach us all that you need quality qb's in your program.I see Drew Bree's in Israel. Vince Young in Bryant.

"polished" while Bryant has more potential. I wonder how many of those people have actually seen both play? I've only seen Bryant (on TV), and based only on that, I would have to say that his upside is ridiculous. If he can learn the offense, make the reads and become an effective downfield passer, he looks to me like he could be a great college QB, a real superstar. He may already be a better passer than a lot of people think. All I have seen of Israel is the tiny YouTube type highlights, and naturally, he looks great on those. Ideally both would redshirt, and a healthy DW and Scheussler would take us all the way next year.

No dobt I think Bryant is the future. I'm just curious to see how they preform this spring and we'll see them go head to head in the spring game. We'll also get to see Elliot vs Scott on play calling. Should be a great spring game

I've only looked at the film that is online, but there is a considerable amount of it for both kids. And albeit these are highlight reels, you can still get a fair feel for their ability at this point. I really like both kids. I think they can both play in this system. It is obvious that Bryant is a superior athlete and would bring his raw athleticism to the field that is almost impossible for defenses to content with. That alone probably makes his ceiling much higher than Israel's. I don't think either have overly strong arms, but enough for high level college systems. Bryant throws a nice deep ball and shows some zip fitting balls in gaps in the defense. Israel also throws a nice deep ball, but he looks like he has a great feel for progressions and gets the ball out early and accurately. Seems to be a really advanced player. It will be interesting to see them get on campus and get a ton of work this spring with DW out. With these 2 guys and Cooper committed should he follow through, we really are going to be in great shape at the position for quite a while.

definitely not redshirt. Redshirt both freshmen, unless Watson gets injured and misses significant time, and let Cain and Scheussler handle the back up quarterback duties.

I'd like to keep them both. But they are both very good and are going to behind Watson. I think they both have starter potential so I could see why one may end up transferring. But I really do hope we keep them both

Redshirting him as a freshman will help the transition from QB to WR...fill the spot of Peake & Kitt on the depth chart. Going to be a huge haul on the freshman class next year in skill positions.

Bryant all day long. People see Israels stats and it blows them away but they don't take into account that he plays in an awful division. Friends that live in the area and have seen him play don't think he will ever make much of an impact for us. Bryant while maybe still a little raw has much more upside.

7A In Florida is a pretty good football and his HUDL tape from his Junior year looks really good. Also having offers from LSU, UCLA. Ole Miss, Florida, Louisville and ten others isn't to shabby. Maybe your friend is a Gator fan and not too happy he's coming to TigerTown? http://www.hudl.com/athlete/877141/tucker-israel
