So Called Service Dogs...In CLT Airport Watching Peeps as I Wait For Flight

Every 10th person has a dog and at least 1/2 of those have some lame vest that decries "Service Dog" Unless most of these people just suffer from some unseen condition, I don't quite believe there are that many folks out there that have a prescription for a "service dog"
Most of these dogs more appear to act like pets that fully alert and animals providing a service.

The snowflakes claim "emotional support" is a service. Mostly AWFL's.

There are way too many snowflakes in our country now, and everyone thinks you want their little yapper around you. They can’t self sooth so they need some little critter to make them feel needed in this world.
Me and my big pooch are good buds but I can do just fine without him every waking second, and I’m sure not everyone wants him around them either.

Everyone “suffers” from some “condition” now. Very chic. It used to be called life.

Ding ding ding, we have a winner.
Also these might be ESA (Emotional Support Animals) rather than true service dogs with a certification. Although neither is all that hard to get for your animal from what I understand.

Service Animal equals your child-killing pit or rotty is allowed in a risk breed restricted neighborhood to dwell. You didn’t want a family friendly safe dog so you tapped emotional support to back your bs. “Emotional support animal”

It’s really easy to go online and get a certificate to label your pet an emotional support animal. Too easy. I know someone who did that to be able to lease an apartment that only allows emotional support animals. Unfortunately, it dilutes the good that animal therapy can do for the relatively few folks who really do need it. It has become a joke. I love animals but, IMO, this should go the way of DEI hiring.

Rhett, true. However, keep in mind there is a difference between an "emotional support" and a "service dog." As an organization, you have more latitude control "emotional support animals" in your facilities.
No so much with "service animals" which are protected under the ADA. If someone presents with a "service animal" you are only allowed to ask 2 questions: Is this a service animal required for a disabiliy? What work or task has this dog been trained to perform?
The owner can lie. The owner does not have to produce any proof whatsoever, nor can you ask the owner to provide proof. The dog is not even required under federal law to wear a vest.

Unfortunately, most people do not understand the law to the extent you seem to and the emotional support animals are treated like service animals in many situations. I’d say the vast majority of animals I see flying in the passenger section of airplanes with their owners are not service dogs. Many businesses treat them the same. And I have seen owners of emotional support animals try to bully their way through situations where they have been challenged by getting loud and belligerent. Most people just let them go because they don’t want the hassle.

Just another sign of weakness in America. Everybody needs a crutch and most seem to enjoy the attention it brings them.

Don't put out your friends, family or neighbors. Avoid the high costs of pet sitters and boarding kennels. Just take your dog with you.

Super glad I don't have to fly as part of a job anymore and especially having to park and do it through CHLT.

True service dogs are licensed and can provide support for many unseen issues.

Purchasing a trained, licensed service dog or putting a pet through service dog training are both possible, but they legit cost thousands of dollars.
When someone books a flight with a service dog, just about every airline these days will ask for verification on the licensing paperwork. And then during check-in, they'll often verify again by interviewing the dog owner -- but they are also limited with the specific questions they can ask. For sake of privacy for the person who needs the dog, they can usually only ask 1) Is this dog trained as a service dog?, and 2) What functions/support has the dog been trained to provide?
I respect anyone's need for a service dog and the support those dogs can provide. They really are special in that regard. What I can't stand are the people who abuse that by trying to pass their untrained pets as a fake service dogs. It ruins the very real service that legitimately trained dogs can provide, and it leads to larger speculation about all dogs' training and validity to perform such tasks, as the OP demonstrated with their comment.
(I want to stress that I'm not faulting the OP for their comment -- rather expressing frustration for the people abusing the system in a way that naturally leads to that kind of speculation.)

Oh, and "service dogs" are different from "emotional support animals."

Service dogs are licensed and trained.
Emotional support animal is an unofficial buzzword that doesn't mean anything re: whether the dog has been licensed and trained. From my experience, people claiming emotional support animals are usually attempting to abuse the system.
