Trotter Jr.

I feel like Trotter has been one of the best Linebackers I've ever seen play at Clemson. I know I'm young and missed some of the older greats as this has been a strong spot at Clemson for many years.

For Trotter to even be projected 2nd or 3rd round in some cases makes 0 sense to me.

This is what we mean when we say the Tigers get media hate a lot.

It's just where we are at in today's NFL.

Like the RB position, LBs are being devalued. Defenses would rather reach for an edge rusher or a corner. They value those positions a lot more today.

This here. Unless the LB is the second coming of Luke Kueckly it's going to be tough for LBs to break into the 1st RD. Faster game and seems like nowadays the base is more of a nickel set vs 4-3 to account for offenses rolling with 3 WR sets being common vs like 10-15 years ago.

Granted, if they had freak traits like Isaiah Simmons that can be an exception because they can basically be a nickel DB if they're fast and quick enough.

Barrett Carter might be able to play himself into the first round if he hits his potential.

Adding to Mr. Leon's point

Rule changes shying away from big hits have also killed the Full-back position and almost killed the true Mike Linebacker position.

Let me also add that I was fully against it for years, but after seeing stuff like situations Kevin Turner, I get it.

To be fair, over on NFL.com anf their mock draft,, they have zero LB's in the first round.

Trotter, Jr. reminds me a little of Ed McDaniel, excellent run stuffer and blitzer. He can cover the middle pretty well but not ideal height. Ed McDaniel and Trotter, Jr are about the same size 5'11' 235lbs to 6'0" and 240lbs. The difference being that McDaniel was an eliminator, he punished people every play. Favre always said you better know where McDaniel was if you wanted to keep your head attached to your shoulders!

You may be young but you understand how vital he was

It's all ebbs and flows. Someone will see how light defenses have become behind the D-line and decide to sign a Mike Alstott type FB. When they start breaking off 15 yard runs and trucking 190 lb safeties then LB's will start moving up in the drafts.
One of the side affects of the current offensive schemes is the QB's aren't lasting as long. I'm amazed at how devalued RBs are but they're asking $45M a year QB's to run more.

I hope you are right, would love to see the FB come back into play

Allstot was fun, and back in the day the Czonka/Riggins/Okoye/Campbell type RB was a monster truck running loose....bring those type of guys back and let them run wild

Which is insane because there will come a time when a LB or Safety says I will take the 15 and maybe get ejected to put their QB out of the game!

the devaluation of the RB position then naturally the counter, the LB position, shares the same fate. Favored base of over half(and rising) of NFL teams is the relatively new 4-2-5 defense (w/ 4-1-6, 5-1-5, 3-3-5 subpackages). Skill specialization > versatility/jack of all trades for both RB position and it's countermeasure the LB position, again symbiotic/mutually related-
