Brownell's take on PJ Hall exhorting the crowd

PJ exhorted the crowd a couple of times and it was like flipping a switch. The crowd came alive and it made a difference in FSU's play. I loved it. In the post-game presser Brownell said PJ shouldn't be doing that.

He was joking with media but he was serious about the subject.

because he's an idiot. Hall is the man and energized me at home watching on TV. I can't imagine how it helped motivate the crowd and his teammates.

I just watched the Brownell post game conference. Coach said PJ probably shouldn’t be exhorting the crowd “before” he made his free throw attempt. Brownell talked at length about PJ and his development…mostly positive. I wish more people here shared his enthusiasm.
Go Tigers Always.

Just a flat out stupid statement by the coach. Hall is the team. We need excitement. Let him do his thing, coach, and maybe it’ll save your job.

My husband was at the game and first thing he told me was that the crowd was a dud. So quiet, not really into it. We remember the old games when you felt like the roof would come off the building with the solid cheering. I know that the size and construction of the arena is part of it but the students are lackadaisical these days.

We obviously were not at the same game. I thought the students were into it. Maybe you could stand up and participate instead of just sitting and complaining.

Considering the sad state of support that Brad has led

the program down into over the years, perhaps you should be more respectful for those fans left that actually attend games still. Clemson basketball can't afford much more apathy. Those "turd" fans that Judge K likes to quote you on are still fans. Insulting what's left seems contrary to everyone's overall objective here - a competitive and winning basketball program.

I thought he said he shouldn't do it before a free throw,

which is true.
I wouldn't change a thing with PJ. But I'm sure you noticed he played to the crowd after his huge late game block. Problem was - the ball was still in play and The Tigers were heading the other way with it.

I'm all for energizing and getting the crowd pumped after a big play or during the game! But...you have to be smart about it too, especially if the ball is still live and in play. After a dead ball or timeout I can see, but as a player...you still have to be aware of what's going during a live ball.

PJ did it before shooting his second free throw

I think CBB would prefer he pump up the crowd after making the second free throw. In all of my years, I have never seen a player pump up a home crowd before shooting a clutch free throw. The crowd made a big difference last night. The students brought it. I just wish the other "fans" would get on board.

PJs energy saved the game for us. And then in private told PJ that it was awesome, but try not to do it mid-free throw

It was sort of like pointing to where you are going to hit a homer in baseball. Awesome if you can back it up.

I loved the enthusiasm but

there was one time (after his big block) where the ball was still live but he was just pumping up the crowd instead of looking for the ball. But a minor point I think.

PJ Hall is arguably the best player Brad has ever coached

He’s an instate kid who could have gone to a lot of other schools, but he decided to stay and help Clemson become a better program.
I’m overjoyed he plays with such skill *and* EMOTION!
We desperately need to sign more PJ Hall’s ay Clemson.
