May 31, 2013, 9:23 PM

towards airport and the Hazelwood area where long time Tigernet poster Clemfan lives..........

Also a tornado is on the ground just south of Okla City between Moore and Norman......

Hope all the folks in those areas take cover and are safe

It has actually been a quiet storm season, but don't let facts get in your way.

Pacific is in a cooling trend while Atlantic is still warm

this is the catalyst for bad things throughout history.

the meteorologists have been telling us for a couple years now that we're in a pattern similar to the 1950's, when there were many violent storms. We've had a big lull in East Coast hurricanes lately, but that's due to change.

Welcome to the 70s .....

After Camille and a spate of hurricanesin the late 60s, the US was remarkably 'cane-free for much of the 70s and into the 80s.

Meanwhile, monstrous tornadoes (which had been on a bit of a hiatus after the Palm Sunday outbreak in 1965) roared back to life. There was an early Delta outbreak in 71, and while folks remember the big ice storm i SC in 1973, fewer recall the tornadoes that killed 15 people.

Biggest was the Super Outbreak in April of 74, probably best known for destroying the town of Xenia, Ohio...but killing more than 300 people in several states.

It's understandable to look at this past few years and say "Everything's changed." But it's like UCS and their football success. This shift is a temporary hiccup in the way things have always been. We've just got a lot more people with cameras now.

I grew up in a little farm town about 10-15 mins from Xenia

My dad owned an insurance agency and insured a lot of people in that town. I was born 5 years later, but by the time I got into middle school there was a big section in our Ohio history book about it.

If you've ever flown into Oklahoma City, by the baggage claim they have a huge mural on the wall that says "Welcome to Tornado Alley" It has big pictures of famous tornadoes through the years. The first time I saw it, I was surprised that they choose that to celebrate (so to speak) in a mural.
