We won the national championship in 2016 with Dan Brooks as DL coach.
Then, Bates comes along and totally inherits the freaking Power Rangers! I could’ve been the DL coach for them!

What did the guy ever do?

Im not gonna bash Bates. but Dabo has proven to be a heck of a recruiter for players and coaches... Ain't Skeered

Todd Bates was valuable to Clemson for the same reason that Dre Bly is valuable to UNC: Top recruiter.

Not saying that Todd Bates was / is not a good coach. I don't have any inside info to suggest one way or the other; our DL played very well.

(Although our DL talent is as good as anyone else's in the country, most of us [including me] cannot judge how much of that superb play was due to coaching vs. how much of that superb play was due to talent).

But Dre Bly is lambasted by UNC fans as a poor position coach (D.Bly coaches DBs at UNC) but lauded as a superb recruiter.

UNC has assembled a fine bunch of HS football players ... but continues to wet the bed on the field; their DB play anyone can see is poor (UNC DBs had been trained in the 'matador technique' of tackling).

I'm confident that we will find a fine DL coach who is also a vigorous recruiter.
