serious question about vitamin D and muh-muh-muh my corona

Read some posts about taking 5000 mg a day. That can't be right. I starting taking D a while back, and the bottle label says "25 mcg / 1000 IU". 25 micrograms is just 1/1000 of a milligram (mg)... so I'd have to take 5 million of those pills to get 5000 mg. Did you guys mean IUs? Or did I mis-read something...

Since I’m not in the sun. In the summer I don’t worry about it.
It’s a general immunity stimulant and in people of a certain age, helps prevent brittle bones.
I’m guessing those in search of a magic bullet against the ’rona are rationalizing that if a little is good, a lot will be better- not so in this case.

Excess Vitamin D levels can

be really really tough on the kidneys. People who are put on Vitmain D regimines have a high level of kidney problems.
It can also mess with your blood work. So if you go to doc for a yearly and even with fasting it can mess with your liver numbers, plus abnormally high BP.
Above is correct too, your body has to store the excess and can go to several organs to chill, thus the liver and kidney issues.

VIT D3 125 MCG (5000 unit)
5000 IU (125 mcg) Softgels Formulated with 125 mcg (5,000 IU) of vitamin D3 for those with higher vitamin D needs or deficiency, as determined by a healthcare professional.

Dr. Fauci says it's good and even in slightly higher amounts isn't going to hurt you.

what I take is 25mcg (reading straight off the label)

which is 125% Daily Rec Value. That should be plenty, or take 2 if you wanna go big. Pill about as big as a baby aspirin. You can get the bigger, squishy yellow gel version too, but I don't like those.
at Clemson Ingles, 300 of them are <$4, almost a years supply. I just bought a new bottle last week.
