I mean firing those current assistant coaches on staff and replacing them with younger coaches who recruit first and coach second. In fact Drad could make that as a condition to save Brownells job . Make him hire new coaches who are real closers.

Basketball is more about talent than coaching. It's the same in football. Bobby Bowden told Tommy that the way to improve was to recruit better players. It's no coincidence that we won a national football title this year because of all the 4 and 5 star players. UNC and Duke gets those players in basketball but there is no excuse that Scar and other ACC schools outrecruit us. A super recruiter in an assistant coach is worth 10 X and os coaches. Yes hire more Dabo types and less Brownell types.

Tell me with a straight face that Brownell is a great recruiter. He wasn't at UNCW. His best recruiter at Clemson got a head job. Almost every team in the ACC outrecruits us. What's wrong with bringing in some new young recruiters and getting rid of the old staff? What if Drad demanded staff changes for Brownells job security? Something has to change here.

Is that why schools like Butler and VCU can make a run in the NCAA tournament, because they have more talent? If basketball was more about talent than coaching then Roy Williams would have more NCAA titles than he does.

Facts are Brownell will be back unless Drad has a change of heart. This NIT bid could gave real ramifications for the future. Drad is looking for real progress. Brownell better make a deep run to convince Drad and the fans that he deserves more time in his contract. He better beat Oakland. Assuming he's back, team performance better mean more than 17 regular season wins next year. No less than a top 30 recruiting class will be needed. It starts Tuesday. If this team is as good as you Brownell loyalists say, getting to New York should be no problem.
