I hate to say it but this portal world is about to get real for Dabo, he's gonna see its nothing like recruitment where he can woo them with what Clemson has to offer, these guys want guaranteed playing time and money. Clemson can't offer either. He's gonna have to not be picky about who he offers and just throw a bunch of offers against the wall and see what sticks. This is an open market for players being bought and VIP, skip the line playing time. I absolutely HATE it! Such a BS way they've turned the sport in to. It'll be an interesting off season to say the least.

I agree. Its a shame. Dabo wants to make boys men, not pay and play boys. Clemson sends a fair bit to the NFL, still a small percentage, so making the boy into a good person is way more, important than prep for NFL. But I guess, it is what it is. Graduating isn't as important. Development of the person isn't important. The life lesson of it takes time to mature into who we want, and you want to be isn't important. Hope it still can happen, even if less so. Go Tigers

All that stuff was awesome and Dabo was the best at it. Now none of that means a thing. Unless they mercifully change the rule back to sit out a year before you play, Coach will have to adapt and submit to it if he wants to continue the run.
I despise all that is happening in the sport, but I hate seeing Clemson lose worse. People can say and spin it however they want, but in one way or another, 8-4 happened because of the portal as much as turnovers. Where is FSU and others without it? How would the Clemson offense had looked with some much needed WR and OL help?
The defense was elite. And wasted yet again. I really don’t want to see it again.

People still can't seem to understand, maybe 5-10 players in the portal are better than what we have. Fact. Those top 10 players are in the portal likely because they already have a deal in place, NIL money to go somewhere else. We can't compete in that arena...unless we find a top 10 kid that is high character and isn't looking for a bunch of NIL cash. People also seem to refuse to realize and/or accept that we beat FSU up and down the field all day, we just had awful turnovers at crucial moments or that game ain't even close - a team filled with portal players, us not. Also keep in mind FSU HAD to use the portal to catch-up to where we are, when you're where we are the portal is diminishing returns. It's that simple.

…it is TOTALLY about $$$$$$….nothing else. Yeah, we will hear the saltatory “great educational institution”, but these are just words without substance.
It all comes down to WHERE you want you ranking to fall depending on the size of your player payroll, i.e., Top 1-5 ($25M-$30M/year), Top 6-10 ($20M-25M/year), Top 11-15 ($15-$20M/year), Top 16-20 ($10M-$15M/year).
It is just a numbers game, and if you put up the appropriate amount of cash, then, with “good” coaching, you can easily see where you will fall in the rankings.
It will require some HARSH decisions relative to SCUTTLING sports that have to be fully subsidized by football revenue, e.g., lacrosse, softball, tennis, soccer, track & field, basketball (yes, even men’s basketball).
The teams that move fastest to a “Contractual Agreement” and players union will be the teams that get ahead of the curve and securing the cash and payroll needed to compete at the highest level.
The toothpaste is out of the tube at this point. There is no going back. Teams that FULLY embrace the new revenue model will benefit the most and fastest.
Clemson just has to decide if it wants to play the game this way at the Power 5 level. Else, MOVE DOWN to the lower ranks, Division II/III and get back to the true essence of the game.

…then, the institution threatens to SUE the NCAA for “tortious interference”.
Then, the NCAA will back down immediately.

Good stuff man. The truth is painful and lots of these empty headed sunshine pumpers on Tigernet are about to have their feelings hurt. This is turning into a chit storm and fast.
And as I write this B. Collins hits the portal. Wow

While I understand your disdain, as the article states (and one thing I've advocated several times) Dabo is using it as still developmental. Kinda like beamer at south carolina with the kid from Newberry. They're out there, you just have to really work at it.
All one needs to do is look at the NFL. It's littered with players from hbcu, d2, and g5 talent. Dabo's been doing it all along with signing pwo and "project" scholarships. Hopefully he's learned from all of our other Clemson teams that there is an alternate way. This way is a whole lot less risky because you don't have to go through the 2 painful years of development that may or may not work out.

If players hasn't been developed when entering the portal, how is that helping teams to get better by taking a portal guy?

You can have your opinion, but I don’t agree with “ throw a bunch of offers out there”. I don’t think DABO will do that. He is going to be picky just like with HS players. He is going to use the portal, but almost everywhere that they have brought in a bunch of portal guys, it hasn’t been successful.

something the mindless moral defectives at UofSc copied from Purdue.
The difference is, Purdue's train looks pretty cool compared to the chicken train that looks like something a local Girl Scout troop built for the town Christmas parade.

Man that is encouraging. The more I read about Coach Swinney being more open minded toward change, the more confidence I get. If he makes the right moves, I think we can beat the Dawgs and get back to the playoffs where they belong!

Say what you want, but his actions have shown he wants no part. But that seems to be different now.
But go ahead and tell me about the 2 scout team QB transfers, and the lineman that were allegedly offered and turned him down.
Tigernet needs to hear it one more time…

he got some, and didn't get some. You can tell this time is different because he has offered a portal player, but not gotten him.
Understood.

Dabo has indeed pursued top end players via the portal.
Same as he has pursued top end HS talent. As we all know, only a tiny fraction out of a large number of high end HS prospects end up picking Clemson.
With the portal, there are fewer high end / known performer players available. Instead of pursuing these high end portal players across all positions, we only pursue portal players for those positions where we are thin. This means that there are but a small number of players that we compete to get via the portal.
Probability means that a small percentage of ‘hits’ from a large pool of prospects means that a recruiting class can be filled with good players … as in via the HS player route.
That same probability for success, when applied to a small number of truly high end portal prospects that play the position where we need help, means that the number of portal players that actually end up coming here instead of MI or aTm or USC will be small.
We give out hundreds of offers to HS players for each recruiting class. We end up signing ~ 20 to 25 each year.
We give out maybe two dozen offers to portal players. Probably at the rate of 5% vs those of HS offers. Therefore, our chances of actually landing a top end portal player are small. That doesn’t mean that we don’t want portal players. It just means that we won’t be taking Fred Davis types or Paul Tchio types (with both ‘types’ representing highly rated HS prospects that did not end up proving themselves in the college game) just to placate fans who are caught up in star ratings.

This. I doubt we see any changes before the bowl game....but afterwards, all bets are off. I'm "guessing" (this is truly a guess) that two will not be back.

So much complaining on here...
Listen, if we can pay Dabo $10M/year, we can match that to pay $50-250k/year to our top 30-40 players depending on impact.

If players want guaranteed playing time then they should get paid off performance. Like w receiver gets so much every 100 yards and ever touchdown but is deducted for drops, missed assignments and whiffed blocks

The "we" here isn't the same though. Clemson is not allowed to play the players directly. NIL has to come with that $10MM.

I, personally, cannot wait to see Burley next year.
We aren't WRU anymore, and that's okay. But when do we start declaring ourselves DTU? We have a legit argument there. Especially with TD and Ruke about to get drafted.
