Fiery Matt Bockhorst defends his QB, promises to "ride with 5" 'til the end
Center Matt Bockhorst sat down with the media for interviews Monday afternoon with a scowl on his face. His jaw was set, his visage grim, and what followed was 15 minutes of fire and brimstone as only an offensive lineman can deliver. He defended his teammates. He defended his quarterback. And he told the truth about the struggles of the offensive line. It was pure gold. Full Story » |

By just admitting that they try hard but aren’t very good. I don’t think many fans are ripping effort, just disappointed in the regression of multiple players and the bad play calling.
Also confused when he said GT was daring them to run. That’s not what I saw

They had a 3 and 3 stack 6 in the box. That is designed to stop the pass. So you have to run the ball to beat them.

Who really cares what their defense was designed to do? Every defense, and I mean every defense, is susceptible to multiple things if the plays are properly designed and your QB is capable of checking out and into something else. To me that is what is evident - they line this offense up and go with whatever is called because I haven’t seen DJ audible out of anything on his own. We should be able to line up across from GaTech and tell them what’s coming and still pick up 8 to 10 yards when we want. Otherwise we are just a gimmick team that can be shut down by inferior players.

Exactly. We beat Tech 73-7 last year, it shouldn’t matter what type of front they line up in, we should be able to execute anything called. This is laughable that because Tech comes out in a look that we haven’t seen, that it cripples this offense?

Who are "we" ... u didn't beat anyone, I didn't beat GT and the offense on the field didn't beat GT. This is almost all new starters, a new QB, new RB, new set of receivers... against a completely different GT team... they will get there ...

Not picking on him but the whole OL and the Strength coach, have you notice the arm size of our linemen. For a national championship caliber team their arms are small which means they cannot be very strong going up against big DL and his a$$ got thrown around like a rag doll the other night.

I'm in the minority and I like what he said. Glad to see some vocalized leadership and taking responsibility whether it's warranted or not. I especially liked, "...it’s not about making friends, it’s about winning games.”

Getting a sense of circling the wagons aqnd playing some football, regardless of what others think. Could be wrong, but this offense may show out this Saturday. Not 40-50 points, but more than we've seen the first three games. Hey, the glass is half full.

We need a team with a chip on its shoulder. Disrespected and angry. That seems to work into our hands.

Sounded like he was pinning a bunch of mistakes on him. Regardless of whether that was the case, throwing a new starter under the bus isn't a great look. You had a rough game yourself, Bock.

Did we hear the same interview? He said most true freshmen couldn’t do what Tate is doing and any true freshman would be making some mistakes. Don’t make drama where there isn’t any. The glass was half full all the way through that interview.

I like what he said. Definitely understand being thrown off the first couple series because of what the D is doing. A couple things, we've had DW4 and Trevor that could and would check out and then make the D pay. Don't think DJ is to that point yet. Whether he should be is another debate.
Also, we have no one in the backfield remotely capable of what ETN was capable of. He could pick up the whifs... Especially against inferior teams, slide over and pick up a blitz etc. He also had the innate ability to create something and even take it to the house.
Another observation, if we keep running the WR screen, DJ will have a few more pick6... And definitely a few more tfl's. Too slow in developing and throwing it.

I have a message for all the O-line men(?). Before you go out on the field, check your jock. If it empty feeling, find someone to take your place because the way you have been playing is a direct challenge to you manhood. If the ball is on the one and you cannot drive the line forward for one yard, you are not doing your job.

Excluding the safety debacle, they only had three possessions in the second half. 34 yards, punt 66 Yards, ended in a fumble 66 Yards, ended in a touchdown
Considering they had 117 in the first half on five possessions, 164 on three possessions is responding well.

Brockhorst and the OL have their own problems and they do not need to worry about other areas at this time.

Rhettfla, did you ever play the position? The situation has not changed that much in 60 or 70 years. To move some one you have to get lower than them. You only need to gain one yard. It used to be called "drive blocking". Yes, I played line for five years at different schools from 8th grade through high school and managed to get my one knee messed up twice. Every line coach taught the same thing in goal line situation. Two of these coaches were linemen in college and another played some pro ball.

It’s nice to see some linemen getting pissed off. It’s okay to have a mindset that you are going whip a guy on the next run instead of hoping to not get beat.
