I get it that the NFL no longer highly prizes the blocking aspect of TE play, but TEs still are expected to block.

Allen (at least from what I recall from watching the games and most of the replays) is a superb blocker of DEs, LBs, and DBs.

Because of his hands, size, and jumping ability, he is an obvious red zone threat.

Does the NFL really believe that there are dozens of TEs that are better as red zone threats than D.Allen?

Is blocking from thr TE position so unimportant that blocking from a TE is just an after- thought?

SMH.

I’m really going to miss this young man

He isn’t quite the route runner Brinningstool is. But, he the best all around tight end I’ve seen in many years. He’s a road grader when blocking. He has a good catch radius with decent speed. I expect to see him have a long career in the NFL because he’s so fundamentally sound. Good luck in whatever this life brings you after Clemson University. It has been an honor having you join the family!

Wait, if he's not projecting to be drafted, then why leave? He should come back have a huge year with CK2 and then get a draft spot.

I assumed he was projected to go. He has the best hands on the team. Only guy who could catch a ball last year.

A risk for sure, but I guess it’s one he calculated for his specific circumstances and desires, and wants to just get on with it, come what may.

From a pure draft stock standpoint and risk of making the league at all though, you are generally right. Improving speed over the next year would be a priority to maximize stock. It would definitely seem to be a good decision to give it another year, but there are risks associated with that as well, and his combo of factors are really only calculable by himself and those in the complete know of where his mind is at and what is most important to him.

Hope he makes it. He’ll definitely need a little luck to go along with hard work. Good luck to Davis - we’re all pulling for him.
