I was at that Duke game sitting in section GG. Clemson was expected to wallop the Blue Devils at home, but when we were driving for a touchdown, to close the gap, we threw an interception in the end zone. The cornerback intercepted about 8 yards deep in the end zone and returned it untouched to put the game away.
As he was running straight at me, in slow motion it seemed, I shook my head and said what a mistake it was to turn our football program over to a coach not much older than the players. I’ve been wrong a couple more times since then.

That was a frutrating season. People were booing Danny at halftime of the VT game. A lot of close games and we had a ton of injuries.
The biggest disappointment was the UGA loss. We beat them all over the wet field that day but had too many turnovers and allowed some safety for UGA to have a career day. UGA won the national championship that year. Herschel was a freshman.

The NC State Game I believe Monte Kiffin (Lane's Dad) was the Coach those years. He and Danny hated each other!

I was a freshman that year. We had a blast! The outcome of the games didn’t matter.
But the next year we had even more fun.
