5th grade, and probably the biggest event that had happened up to that time. 9/11 probably takes the cake though. Remember both days well.

When folks say, "You'll regret that in the morning", I just sleep until noon, because I'm a problem solver.

A few years ago my brother and I were talking about this, and we both remember being sick and at our Grandmother's house watching the launch from her living room. Oddly, we don't remember each other being there. Both of us must have been in shock at what we saw.

I was at my Grandpa's house in Pasadena. He worked for JPL ...Jet Propulsion Laboratories. He was very distraught when it happened. One of my relatives asked him if there was any chance they could survive and that got him even more stressed. He thought the question was ridiculous. I remember that day as well.

Remember watching it in class in first grade. Still hard to even fathom that I watched people die like that and then had to listen to our teacher explain it to us. I can't imagine how she felt.

And absolutely one of the greatest presidential speeches of all time. Reagan was on another level compared to most of our presidents when it came to speaking to the people.

Explosion was at around 11:40 ET. Launches had become so routine that they didn’t “wheel “ the tvs into the classroom to watch anymore.

Just before noon class was let out for lunch and we were an open campus so could leave for that glorious 50 minutes each day. Usually everyone hustling to the parking lot - but that day we just stopped in our tracks and stared. Very surreal. We didn’t know what had happened 20 minutes earlier.

She was watching it on one of those TVs that they put on the rolling carts that are way too tall for that kinda weight. Didn’t really register with me what had happened until I saw some tears rolling down her face.

3rd grade, Lyman Elementary. They brought most of us to cafeteria to watch.
Wheeled TV out to watch. I remember all the teachers gasping, crying and one running to turn the TV off. Principal turned volume down and TV away from kids, as he continued to watch.

Sad, sad day.
