Ticket question for IPTAY reps
Aug 22, 2018, 1:39 PM
|
|
I am a long term IPTAY member, but at a very low level, as I have two kids in college (one at CU) and don't have the disposable funds to contribute more. I have never been a season ticket holder, because I have such a low priority, and can usually find what I need, in the lower deck, for around face value.
I asked a ticket seller today if she had her tickets yet, and she said "My IPTAY donor is in Greenville and should get them today, so I should have mine in a few days." Now I am not naive enough to believe that there are not some "proxy" buyers, maybe even profiteers, among the ranks of IPTAY, but I wonder how rampant this is.
IPTAY publishes the number of season tickets sold, but do they publish the number of IPTAY accounts that purchase tickets? I am not trying to make trouble...I am just curious. I know several people who seem to have arrangements to get tickets in this manner. Honestly, if someone's donor level qualifies them to buy the tickets, I guess there is nothing wrong with the practice.

Are on stubhub every week. Different folks in there every game. One game the owners cousins were sitting there and I found out that they also have seats in the WEZ and the upper deck. They sell the UD seats and these 4 to help subsidize their WEZ contribution.

If I had the means, I would probably buy all of the seats

I could, too. But how much profit can they get out of UD tickets? I thought selling at face value was an investment loser. Do people really pay above face for UD tix?
OK, no more comments from me on this thread. Nothing wrong with some old fashioned capitalism.

Depending on the game, definitely. Last year I bought 4 season tickets from someone in one of the lower rows in the upper deck around the 35yd line because I didn't want to have to deal with trying to find 4 seats together for some of the games.
I mostly just listed my extra tickets at market value, taking all offers into consideration. If market value was face value, I took that without hesitation and people were usually very willing to pay it. If I remember correctly, the ONLY game last year that I sold for just face value was the Citadel game. Most of the others sold for $15-50 more than face with the most expensive being the Auburn game, which I sold for $225 each. At the time I sold them, people were asking upwards of $300 each for upper deck tickets, so they went very quickly.
It all depends on what everyone else is asking, as well as what people are willing to pay and if they want to worry about purchasing tickets the day of the game or not. In general, my experience has been that if I list extra tickets even close to face value, they are gone within the hour.

but it's quite difficult to believe that someone could make any sort of profit selling Clemson football tickets year to year, after factoring in face value paid and IPTAY contribution required to purchase said tickets.
You'll get that one special game like UGA or ND every so often that you could turn a buck on, but most games I see tickets going for half of face value, or even less.

If you are Riggs ($25000) or Heisman ($10000) level you

can order up to 14 season tickets. I tailgate with a group at the Heisman level. They split the donation 4 ways and, ergo, the season tickets. The IPTAY membership is in only 1 donor's name. Sounds like the scenario you described.

I suppose the other 3 closely monitors the health of the individual whose name is on the IPTAY account.

There are many IPTAY members that buy extra tickets for others that don't want to join IPTAY. I have done it for someone in the past and they contributed part of my IPTAY contribution to help defray my cost. There's nothing wrong with doing this, but we would prefer everyone to have their own membership.
