Recruiting rankings

The top 3 classes right now:
Rivals 1. Bama 2. Clemson 3. Penn State
247 1. Bama 2. Clemson 3. Penn State
ESPN 1. Bama 2. Texas A&M 3. Clemson
We are in good shape, but we still have work to do if we want to end up in the top 5. Only 4 out 16 5-star players and 45 out the top 100 have committed, so we still need to sign another 5 star or at least a couple more in the top-100 to keep pace. Who are the top players left who we have a good shot at?

ESPN 4-star DL Tim Settle and the #1 overall prospect in the country 5-star DL Thompson has heavy interest in us right now. Also, don't forget about the #2 5-star ATH George Campbell who was high school teammates with Artavis Scott in FL at East Lake High. Campbell is rumored to be a slight lean to Clemson over UFA right now. Not to mention, he's been to the campus three times, once being to work out with Deshaun and Artavis in the offseason.
I'd say we're still sitting in prime position for even 3 more out of the Top 15 of this year's ESPN 300. If we can land two of the three I just mentioned I'd be shocked if we didn't end up with the # 2 recruiting class behind Bama.

Thanks. I know I would be more than satisfied if we could get any two of those.

Those that pay attention to class rankings to determine

on-the-field success don't see the entire story. Coaches must do a good job of recognizing skill sets that will fit their system, develop to their full potential, and must recruit to provide quality depth at all positions. We saw for many years how despite having top 25 recruiting classes Clemson was unable to compete at a high level because most of the talent was concentrated at the skill positions. As long as our overall recruiting ranking is not statistically significantly low (outside top 20 IMO), then I'm OK with it. We have been placing heavy emphasis on the trenches this year and it is a breathe of fresh air.

I am one who takes recruiting rankings very lightly
You have to get players with heart and drive not stars (Shuey vs Bellamy)
These soft kids are getting too much attention too early and many of them are primadonas with no heart and expect too much from every school looking at them.
Why does a So Cal not win the national champ every year? They get tons of 5 stars, so does Bama and it pays off for them but they have Saban too with is a 100 star recruit
Just a reminder to everyone that not all 4 and 5 stars are Sammy's, Tajh's and CJ's. Just ask Bama, LSU, So Cal who sign several of these guys every year and watch them not pan out as much as a 3 star for Wisconsin, Mich St, even Wake or Vandy for that matter.
Obviously it is great to have the option of getting them which is something that has not been the case in the past so it is still overall a great thing!!!

money/website-hit driven, and pointless exercise, what you want your program to do is get into the chicken-or-cycle of winning games, which brings in good recruits, who win games, etc. It's not a coincidence that the teams that sign "top 10 classes" every year typically finish there during the regular season.
There are going to be 10-15 legit, can't-miss players every year that I do think are objectively "five stars" but there is very little difference between a three and four star recruit in my opinion (I think the volume and caliber of offers is a better indicator).
What it does help with is exposure for more potential recruits. It really doesn't hurt to have "Clemson" running across the ESPN crawler all day on Nat'l Signing Day as a top 5 class!!

to open the season will bring in the majority of recruits we need. I will take Settle, Campbell, DJ Jones, Huggins, and Boulware to finish things up.
