This team is missing SPEED on offense badly

Dec 1, 2022, 10:55 AM

At every skill position. It feels like the entire offense moves in slow motion, from pre-snap and after. We no longer have that RB, WR, or even QB that can take it to the house at any given moment and it's really showed these last 2 years. I agree with most that DJ is a big part of the problem, just from his awareness, mechanics and almost robotic style of play. But this offense as a whole is nothing compared to what it was from Boyd to Trevor, and its mainly due to the number of busts at the WR position the last couple cycles (Ladson, Ngata, EJ Williams..etc). I love Shipley and Mafah, but even they have their faults. Dabo and co. have to really find a way to get a few of those playmakers back in the offense..especially at WR. I really hope they hit the portal and look to these lower schools as well for late bloomers. Hopefully Randall and Williams pan out going forward along with B. Collins to improve it. But to say this offense needs a Homerun threat is an understatement.

If we can acquire 'during the play' speed, then I can live with slow and slower pre-snap motion speed.

Actually, if we intentionally vary the speed of pre-snap motion, then that can be used to keep the opposing defense a bit off balance.

With 'during the play' speed, then the 'not fast enough' vs. 'even worse not fast enough' tactic isn't effective. We've tried that approach out of necessity the past two years ... the results speak for themselves.

my app hear in Nashville and the opening advertisement everyone is Dabo talking about "speed" selling Internet. But we do need it at the wr position. RB doesn't bother me as much I loved it when we had Wayne Gallman and I can deal with what we have now because they're good solid RB's. Like you though I wish there some pre snap speed, little more tempo..

We began to decline after the 2018 Championship. This staff has missed on more players since 2019. The staff needs to adapt to the current climate in college football before we continue to get left behind.

We only have one receiver that can beat his man in a one in one right now. That's it. When the offense was humming we had at least 2 or 3.

That is an issue...not only with team speed but elusiveness from the line of scrimmage and downfield...much of that has to do with the routes but just flat out speed we are without! Truth is that Higgins and Ross were not absolute burners but good head fakes and sharp cuts made them so! Renfrow was certainly no burner but he was quick and sharp on his cuts so often he was open and it makes a big difference when you have a QB that can put it on the money! Back in the day Bob Hayes was a burner with the Cowboys but he could not catch GC...so many dropped passes...Iron hands Hayes! Those two tight ends with long legs can open spaces but have not been used as much as possible in opening up the field...Allen a Jake can open a field because it will take two to cover them in most cases and both of them have good hands when the ball is thrown under 60mph! Shipley has great speed and Mafah has a sunday punch like Gallman...they make a great pair!
