This baseball program......

......needs and infusion of pitching talent. This offense has enough to get it done but I mean when the pitching staff can't hold a lead eventually you run out of steam and innings. Have to find guys that can get it done on the mound. That is Monte Lee's fault. He didn't bring in the arms. I mean we don't have a Friday guy much less a Saturday, Sunday or late inning arms. Still I believe this team has the ability to get to post season play bit it's not going to be easy.

I don’t understand how the pitching got so bad so fast.

It has been bad for at least the last 3 years. You can thank Andrew See for that.

I agree. See was bad. Last season and especially this season it’s hit rock bottom. He and Lee left the cupboard bare. Pitching development not even there.

I said after the week two sweep by UCF that pitching was going to plague this team for years to come. It has been bad the last few years. Not saying you are, but a lot of casual observers did not realize just how bad Andrew See was to the Tiger program. His poor coaching will outlive Monty's by 3 years.

Yup. The decline in our pitching was evident the last few years sadly and the decline has finally fell through the floor now. It's going to take time but once we can get some good experienced pitchers in there with the rest of Bakich's team, I'm certain this team will become regulars in Super Regionals or CWS bound again. The homerun games were fun for a season or two. But once we didn't have 3 solid weekend starters and one or none bullpen guys, the gig was up and we were toast under Lee. I think 2017-18 was the last years we had good enough all around pitching with Charlie Barnes and crew. Outside of Spencer Strider and a handful of other guys the years after that, it was a guessing game what we were gonna get every week and weekend. Monte Lee and Andrew See threw this program in the dirt and it's painful and annoying to have to deal with as a fan. Thankfully it's not like we are program that has always sucked, so the rebuilding won't be as hard. We just have to be patient.

Correct. We have "Throwers" not pitchers. I have never seen a complete staff have so many 2-0, 3-0, 3-1 counts in my life. We have some guys with "arms" but don't have a clue how to pitch. I remember watching pitchers like Whitey Ford win 25 games one year and the man couldn't break an egg in a rock pile. Same for Greg Maddux of the Braves. They just knew how to hit spots, change speeds and keep hitters guessing. i.e. they knew how to pitch. Our guys are "throwers" not pitchers!

Greg Maddux was a hard thrower who struggled with command until he changed his approach in the minor leagues in an attempt to be more effective. He still pitched at 91-93 mph for his first several years in the major leagues with the Cubs.

He got drafted out of high school because he threw hard.

People don't know what a terrible reference they are using when suggesting young kids pitch more like the Greg Maddux. In reality, he was stubborn and didn't want to change completely until he was established in major league baseball.
