The downside to the playoffs is

The conference game championship is diminished. Winning is more important to get top 4 not actually winning the conference. All the talk is on winning the conference anymore. Jumbos actions highlight this.

Conf. championships should be like the first round of the playoff

you don't win, then you are out. But they want to keep the bowls, so the loser can still play in what's essentially a consolation bracket, like the NIT.

Seems like...

Conference championship secured FSU playoff spot and got OSU in and lack of one hurt big 12....that would make it pretty important

thats my point

Its about getting top 4 now rather than winning conference

Different ways of looking at things I guess...

I was actually more interested in championship games because of the playoff that was on the line. Huge reward for winning the conference. Big risk as well which makes them more interesting.

they seem more important to me

the fact that the big 12 doesn't have one may of actually just hurt them..crowning co-big 12 champs and having tcu play a 2 win team in the final weak could have cost them a spot..

the conference championship games are essentially round 1 of the playoffs now..not to mention every team wants to win their conference and be conference champs..does it not bother you at all that fsu just surpassed us for most ACC titles? bothers me a lot
