Beto the philanthropist.....

Let’s see if we can get through this thread without a “but Trump”. I understand if that proves difficult.
What’s it say about someone who stumps on wanting to help the poor and disadvantaged, and offer opportunity for all, but gave $1100 to charity against an income of $370k—-0.3%?
I could get into him wanting programs that raise taxes while underpaying his own taxes (while his mom also moved money around, including to him, to underreport income) but I won’t.
Just looking at philanthropy. Can you really believe that someone this stingy is the magnanimous do-gooder they claim to be, or is this not a valid metric?

on it....but he's off.
Anyway, that was always my point with Bernie Sanders. Dude needs to walk the walk if he's going to espouse all of these socialist ideals. It's so transparent, I have no idea how people buy into it. They have no intention of paying the consequences of the policies they champion, YOU are going to do that, while they have multiple million dollar properties, private jets, etc.

I would think you would be open to the idea of socialism, it is a lot like having parents that pay for your education, starter home, and boat and you walk away debt free. The only difference it is harder to self aggrandise and point at your own superiority when everyone has the same advantages.

I paid for my education myself via student loans, took me until I was 32 to pay them off. This is why I did not drop out of architecture school and pursue an easier degree.

I. Why don't you do the right thing and help pick up some of our tab? Maybe I could get a new boat if I wasn't paying $1k a month to student loans.

I am ### proud of the fact that I was not handed anything for free in life. Biggest part of being a man is making your own way in life, and not mooching off your parents into adulthood.

Why is that something to be proud of?
Apr 16, 2019, 11:44 AM

That was a circumstance to which you had no control over. That's like being proud of being double jointed or being proud of being left-handed.
You can be proud of what you've accomplished, but someone who was born under different circumstances and was provided more shouldn't be any less proud of their accomplishments.
It seems like you're trying to make this into a scorecard item. If anything, you're arguing against social welfare, since clearly you can be "not handed anything for free" and still become a raging success.

absolutely none, I am just humoring myself on the whole anti socialism sentiment coming from people whose worth is more tied to their parents accomplishments than their own. it would be nice to see them get off their high horse from time to time and just admit and that it is completely reasonable for people to want free health care and higher education.

I am a liberal, but I feel the same. I can't nail it down, but I don't like him. I don't even like the way he stands on tables where people eat. Anyway, he seems full of himself and just off. The best Dem now is probably Mayor Pete imo. Although he has absolutely no chance of winning or even being on the Dem ticket.

Pelosi said there were only about five socialist in her party and dismissed them with a snarl. These young upstarts are nothing more than a fart in the wind to that old girl. I expect she will primary AOC next term and get rid of her altogether. Remember Amazon, the NY working people are upset about the loss of that growth.

Do you know of any volunteer work that Beto did? Some people give money, and some people give time. I personally would value volunteering time more so than charitable donations, but some people don't have the time to give and instead donate $$$.

It would certainly be better than say someone who is stingy with their time and runs a fake charity, but hell I guess even someone like that could be President.
