Leprechauns get in almost every year? Obviously they would have a much better chance than now.

The Leprechauns lol. If that's the case,
then no way they ever join a conference in
football. As long as NBC keeps renewing the
contract and the Domers have a decent shot at
the CFP, why would they join a conference?
The self serving Irish idjits only played in
the ACC last year since they wouldn't have
gotten to play much otherwise.

Idk, but the the combined money from the NBC
contract and whatever bowl they go to must
be similar or better than a conference payout.
An annual CFP appearance would only enhance it.

Well if they go 12-0 or 11-1 or maybe even 10-2 (depending on the landscape that year) they would probably make it, just like pretty much every other power 5 team.

No because there will be a set of rules and they may not qualify.

They would have been in the last 4 years.
ND is a cash cow for CFB outlets, so if any way possible, they will be included. In most years they play a better schedule than most teams.

The only guarantee is that the SEC will have at least six teams in.

I agree, this entire expansion is more beneficial to them than others.
SEC/ESPN is the driving force.

But we had 2 ACC teams in just last year?

Making the playoff 3 times bigger will benefit the SEC. It will also benefit every other conference, too.

Last year two ACC teams made the playoff but it feels like we didn't even notice!

But it wasn't that long ago that we had at least 3 title-competitive teams in the league. If the ACC continues to improve, maybe we can once again get more teams in the playoff than the SEC just like we did last year.

I wouldn't mind beating UNC or Miami twice in a season, that's for sure. This year is a different story, but the future is the ACC's for the taking if you ask me.

We probably should go to 24 teams so that all the SEC can

automatically be included, and still have some berths left over for other teams. :(

They will NEVER join the ACC in football. They will get in with even 2 losses most years and not having to risk a championship game loss. Time for the ACC to move on and stop looking so desperate for them.

Notre Dame will join the ACC if this goes through

Otherwise, they won't have a chance at the bye.

I actually agree with Paul Bingbong that ND gets hosed under the new format.

ND will join the ACC the same year of the effective date of the expansion.

If you think they will be satisfied going 12-0 but being seeded 5th and having to play an extra game, you are mistaken. Getting in with two losses doesn't matter as much because it means their team isn't really a contender.

The first 10 years of the new system, one of the top 4 teams will win the championship at least 9 times.

TL;dr version: Getting into the top 4 will become ND's obsession. They most definitely will NOT be satisfied starting every season with the #5 seed as their ceiling.

They already get a bye

Jun 21, 2021, 9:10 AM

Remember, the BIG12 didn't have a championship game just 3 years ago. It cost them.

Adding a championship game got them into the playoff & won them two Heismans; that conference title game, in spite of being a guaranteed rematch, changed an awful lot.

Notre Dame simply doesn't have that game; they already have a bye while other conferences are playing for their league titles. It's not an "extra" game they're being made to play, so to speak; it's the same number as the 4 highest-ranked conference champions.

Last year when Notre Dame finally could play for a conference title, they got destroyed by Clemson. It didn't matter; the first game where they barely won with Clemson out its #1 first-round draft pick in Trevor Lawrence seemed to matter most.

That's what I don't get about the SEC stuff----it worked for the ACC just last year. Who's to say the ACC won't be more competitive again? It wasn't that long ago we had 3 title contenders in the league. The SEC is ahead of us NOW, sure, but ND alone being in the ACC for just one year showed that they can do the same thing with the ACC for the playoff.
