It’s called baseball in which there ace beat our number 3 starter… not rocket science if you know anything about the game

Don't have to be a rocket scientist to know that we coming into this game, we were the better team by a long shot. And no reason we should have been trailing the whole game. Maybe you are the one who doesn't know baseball.

I would ask if you have watched us much the last couple weeks , we haven’t been hiring starters very well at all and our pitching staff (besides game 3 against BC who is absolutely terrible) has been terrible… I know we left guys on but we won’t win many games in the regional giving up 8-9 runs a game , just not how it works

Nobody said we are not the better team… but in the game of baseball especially the best team doesn’t always win. And usually number 3s don’t beat 1s 8 out of 10 times

Yeah, but that's why you don't throw your number 3 pitcher against their ace in a must win game ... someone who already beat us w/ 15 Ks. That's kind of the point people have made ... this is single elimination situation. I don't like the format (seems like none of us do), but it is what is it. When Miami won yesterday, my top 2 pitchers would have been penciled in immediately. I'm not sure that the OPs point is so crazy or indicates he doesn't know the game like you do. Its a discussion on pitching strategy ... we have struggles a bit with pitching most of the year. Pitching injuries for guys that were expected to be here this year have exercerbated that problem. You have to win today to advance. Against most pitchers, I'd prob roll the dice b/c we typically have strong offense w/ good situational reliability. But maybe not against THIS guy in THIS game.
Its a reasonable discussion on baseball strategy/options ... its not necessarily b/c he doesn't know anythign about the game.

We are setting up our pitchers up for the regionals! This was not a must win game for us! Yes it would have been nice to win and advance but not at the sake of screwing next weekend up. Regionals are way more important! Therefore that’s why you didn’t see Knaack or smith.

I see that. I'm not sure its what I personally like (I hate the ACC and want to beat all of them in everything), but that is a fair assessment if that is CEB's priorities. My point was simply that everyone was questioning the strategy/priority of starting #3 verse their killer ... it doesn't reflect their understanding of the game one way or another. The criticism of the OP was that he didn't know baseball ... b/c ostensibly he didn't understand that #3 will likely not win verse an ace. But he understood that ... that was his point ... we needed to start our ace as well in order to win.
This reflects someone else's goals/priorities for this week. Now ... we can discuss (its a sports board, BTW) whether or not we should focus on winning now or focus on the larger prize.
Again, fair assessment you make. But its really hard for me to lose to teams like Miami, Louisville, NSCT ... well almost all of them TBH.

Then if he was our 3, and this game meant that much, shuffle your rotation. I mean it felt like we were conceding the game. Just disappointed and this 40 win team is about to get a rude awakening in regional play. We have 1 starter and 2 good bullpen guys

Yes there is...Thats the beauty of baseball...
Just imagine how much pressure the positions players have felt over the entire season having to bail out this sh*t pitching staff week in and week out...The bats have no room for any kind of off night. The pitching puts them in a bad spot every game except for when Knaack starts. talk about pressure.

Our defense is a lot of the reason the pitching numbers arnt as good as they should be… but since you think you know it all our pitching is top 3 in era(which is the main stay in pitching) in the acc while our defense is bottom 3 in fielding percentage (meaning they commit a lot of errors) but yet everyone wants to blame the pitchers

I think I'd blame pitching (well, some of them) more than you. But you are right ... defensive errors at CRITICAL moments of the last month has repeatedly cost an opportunity to get out of an inning unscathed. Then the pitchign gives up a multi-run shot or something ... and everyone blames the pitchers. When in reality, the pitcher never should have been in that position had the defense been a bit more consistent. A lot of that is probably due to Cifuo going out and the need to move folks around. Ithink this had a larger impact on defensive play than we realize. I'd like to see comparison of IF errors before and after his injury.

IF PLAYING FOR SEEDING IN THE REGIONALS IS MEANINGLESS THEN YES IT GUESS IT IS MEANINGLESS. NO ONE WANTS TO GO 0-2, ESPECIALLY BACKICH.

Look at the SEC tourney. Pretty much all the top seeds are eliminated. Having said that we should just forfeit tomorrow and go get ready for regional

Wow, the mentality of some is just sad. There will never be a sport where lower ranked teams do not beat higher ranked teams. Winning and losing part of every sport and will always be.
