Please give Andrew Booth a break
Oct 20, 2019, 11:18 PM

Andrew Booth is a Clemson Tiger. He messed up. Andrew was on National TV. How many of us have ever been on national TV? Thank God that there were no cameras following me around when I was 18 or 19 or etc. Andrew Booth is a Clemson Tiger. If you are a Clemson Tiger, you need to send gratitude and appreciation for the hard work that he has put in. And remember that you may not have been perfect when you were 18 years old. I know that I wasn't perfect, and I'm still not perfect.

Stuff like this happens occasionally when you play in a sport that is as physical and competitive as football. Sometimes your emotions just get the best of you and you do dumb stuff. Remember when Isaiah Battle punched that ncst player a few years ago? I hope dabo doesnt suspend him any longer then his required first half.

When you put yourself in front of your team and university

It's a problem that will show up again at some point in the next 3 1/2 years. I'm all for giving people second chances. You don't give a third chance when it comes to something like this and to say that this just came out of nowhere is ridiculous. Nobody goes from being all mild mannered and from the perfect family to going full mount and swinging your fist on a football field. That just doesn't happen.

Kinda like how Christian Wilkins was a problem. We all know

That Wilkins was the model teammate and student but he did the same thing yesterday. Booth messed up and Dabo is handling it. No need to make more of this than is there.

However I will be surprised if he’s here for 3 more seasons and something like this never happens again.

but there is a difference in someone taking a swing by playing too physical and doing a judo toss, putting his opponent on his back, intentionally getting in the mount position and taking a swing. That was uncontrollable rage.

the rage looked pretty controlled to me. Uncontrollable rage would have been a missed punch, but Booth landed his with great control.

you don't know him and then insinuate that he has uncontrollable rage. Dude you don't know him!!!! You talk about someone's character when you don't know him. I trust Dabo who is around him everyday and was around him multiple times while recruiting him.
I met Booth's dad at the UNC game. He is a good ol' boy and was huggin on everyone with Clemson on. Based on that I'd say he comes from a good family and Dabo isn't lying when he says that is not who Booth is.

I am all for rehabbing Andrew Booth and look forward to seeing him play in the future.
But I also agree with you. From the looks of it, that wasn’t the first time he’s thrown a punch. I hope the punishment and consequences teach him to control himself and it never happens again.

Why? He messed up. Give him a break and it might happen again. No one expects perfection,as you said these young men are 18-20-year-olds. But you should expect your players to keep their cool. Pushing a player is one thing, punching him is a totally different matter.

No ONE knows how and why it ended up the way it did as time passes he will understand there is a time and place for everything many ways to express your feelings Only thing I did not like or agree with and maybe he will learn quick from it You never try to hit anyone in the face when they're wearing a helmet very good way to break your hand

I agree. No need to go overboard here. Good people sometimes make mistakes. Punish him and move on. No need to ruin a college career over this. Honestly the louisville player probably deserved it even though Booth should have showed restraint.

Heck, written books were barely around when I was a teenager. Nevertheless, I did some really stupid stuff between 18 & 22. Still, do, but now with a flare of arthritis. Fortunately, no one labeled me for life for my dumb stuff as a kid--unlike some TNET Psycho-therapists on Booth.

We do not have a bunch of choir boys on our team, Booth made a mistake. This is football, somewhat of a battle and emotions take place. He made a small mistake and personal, I'm for football players with attitude, controlled attitude. He's young and will be fine, I agree, give him a break!

I get what you're saying, but I disagree. When I was at Clemson, I wasn't given free tuition and the chance to represent my university on the big stage. I wasn't surrounded by murals preaching character and integrity, and spoken to by coaches every day who echoed the same. I didn't have an accountability partner/team like our players do. The standard I was held to was "young and stupid" or "college kid" who was expected to do some stupid little things and maybe one or two relatively big things in my 4 years.
The standards and expectations of Clemson athletes, particularly Clemson football, are very high. If you've ever had a tour of the football facility, you'll see it plastered on all the walls, and I'm sure it comes up in many of the team or position meetings. Like another poster mentioned, losing your temper is one thing, climbing on top of a guy and blatantly punching him is just stupid and inexcusable.
Dabo did the right thing by taking the lead on penalizing him and I expect Booth to miss more than one half of one game. Dabo doesn't mess around when he says "Best if the Standard." He takes it very seriously and he expects all of his players and staff do to do on every level.
The OP is right. Andrew Booth is a Clemson Tiger. But Clemson Tigers are held to higher standards than other players and have greater expectations of character and judgement. Very pleased with how CDS is handling it.

Only half the next game- same as targeting. It’s just not that big of deal. The only person who could have got hurt by that punch was Booth. It was a dumb play but move on. If he hits some student or someone without a helmet or a girlfriend, etc. let me know. Otherwise this is just bs fodder for other schools and the media painting bad optics.
