Opinion about marijuana arrests: First of all, I do not do
May 4, 2012, 1:54 PM

drugs of any kind, and I do see that many drugs should be outlawed because they destroy lives. However, I have noticed on the news and in opinion articles that the business of arresting people for pot is doing nothing more than clogging up our courts, jails, and wrecking otherwise innocent people's lives. I think that they are eventually going to have to legalize pot because of the waste of time and money it causes our justice system.
And I have developed this opinion over the last few years, not just today.

This won't happen anytime soon. The alcohol and tabacco lobby's are too strong. Also there is far too much misinformation out there about marijuana, even though its generally harmless.

Especially if the Right has their way at the next election. They might as well run on the platform that says anyone who smokes weed or is gay should be locked up in a concentration camp.

This case will not clog up the courts

Assuming this is a first time offense, Sammy will get to do PTI. He'll have to take some classes, do some community service, and pass a few drug tests.
They are pretty generous with PTI for first time offenders. A guy I know got arrested for growing 6 pot plants and got to do PTI for it.

funny how people use the argument "they destroy lives"
Lets make them illegal because they destroy lives by taking people to jail and destroying their life??
Drugs are illegal because of lobbyist like police unions, prison guard unions and private correction facility corporations as well as politicians pocketing big bucks in other ways.

Well,I'm glad you developed this opinion over the last few years, but the fact remains that until guys like Sammy, and Amadou get it,our courts, and jails are only doing their job. They are not wrecking anybody's lives. An inconvience maybe, but a person should think long and hard before doing something ILLEGAL. Maybe they will eventually legalize pot,but today is not that day,and the time and money wasted can be blamed on one person, and one person only;the one caught with it. Like it or not Sammy got caught.

i think sammy is a fine young man that smokes a little reefer, and i don't think there is anything wrong with that. i used to smoke all the time, not anymore but there is no way the government legalize it because anyone can grow it and they can't make money off of people that do.
