The rumored 14 team CFP would be great for CU and FSU

The reality is the GOR has proven to be watertight or it would be leaking by now. There's no getting out of the ACC until 2036.

If you told me I only have to finish 2nd in the ACC to get into the CFP I would take that deal everyday and twice on Saturday. How many times in the last 10 years have we not accomplished that??? If we can't do that we don't belong in the CFP anyway.

If playoff money went to the schools which seeded in the PO, I'd agree.

To finish your thought …

In the absence of competitive financial resources (which will be an ever increasingly obvious fate for us), Clemson’s recruiting will suffer vis a vis the ‘rich’ programs.

Note that ‘rich’ programs includes selected non-SEC and non-B1G schools such as SMU, Miami, N.Carolina, and others.

As the relative state of being ‘not rich’ grows when compared to the ‘rich’ schools, then Clemson’s ability to consistently remain in the Top 14 becomes less and less likely.

Clemson must figure out a way to become a member of either the SEC or B1G. (B1G wo7ld get more value from adding Clemson than would the SEC.)

I’m not sure FSU is finishing second in the ACC with a 1-7 conference record.

It needs to go to 16 with no byes. This year just helped support that.

With top 4 conference champs hosting (worst an 8-seed). I like the idea of rewarding this, along with it still being a fair way to check bias.

Seems like this year showed that hosting is more of an advantage

I don't think so. I think this year showed the byes are going to the wrong teams and we will see that change. Conf champs get auto-bid, but not auto-bye.

whether it's 12 Teams, 14 Teams or 16 Teams no one gets a bye. The only real bye would be a team that is not playing for a conference championship if they are included in the CFP. Just like during the regular season I believe a bye week allows a team to get stale. I understand a bye allows a team to heal some players but a no bye is just the breaks of the game.

That doesn't make sense. Texas and UGA played for the SEC championship. On the same day, obviously.

Georgia won, got a 2 seed, and skipped the first round of the playoffs.
Texas lost and played a week earlier than Georgia did.

How is that not a bye?

This is what Tennessee did. So they got a bye, but UGA above did not?
UGA games: Dec 7, Jan 2 (26 days)
UT games: Nov 30, Dec 21 (21 days)

"Just getting in" isn't enough for Clemson. We need to be able to compete to win the title. If we go another 11 years making tens of millions of dollars less than our competition, PER YEAR, we will fall way too far behind to be competitive.

No way the sec accepts only 4 teams in an expanded playoff. They would want 6 at least.

If the B1G/SEC get $32/$56 million for just the 1st round, that will put us even further behind. In 10 years we won't even be in the playoff. I wouldn't be celebrating adding an ACC team that is guaranteed to the playoff when you look at the bigger picture. Last I checked $16 million to the SEC and B1G is greater than $8 million to the ACC. That number only grows the further each team gets in the playoff.

The SEC wants a 16 team playoff so that all 16 teams get in over any other school in any other conference.

sounds like the ESPN Invitational.***
