contracts. Us, not so much. Nike takes Clemson for granted despite the Tigers having one of the most recognizable and distinguished brands in the country.
That is one area where the ACC excels, uniform contracts...though compared to gate reciepts and TV rights, it is relatively unimportant.

Considering Clemson brings in about 40-50mil in football revenue (outside of iptay) each year, I'd think a brand contract of 10mil would mean a lot.

stratosphere. FSU gets about half that and is Nike's highest direct contract client. UNC get around 3 mil. I think Ohio State gets 3.5 mil.
Oregon benefits the most though it is not by a direct uniform contract.

Even 3.5 is a lot of money. There's a ton of equipment that 3.5 can buy. If we're behind in these agreements I'd think it to be unacceptable and need changing.

Not as good as you think.

What gets those 3 schools the contracts they get is their THUG appeal. Clemson is a great brand ,but no THUG appeal and that sells the crap out of Jerseys.

Clemson's old contract with Nike
Jan 9, 2015, 9:20 AM
|
|
was in the $1 million range ($600,000 in apparel and $400,000 in cash) which is grossly undervalued compared to what alot of other schools receive.
Clemson's existing contract with Nike expires on 6/30/15.
Clemson's baseball apparel contracts with New Era and Russell expired in May and June of 2014.
Hopefully the University is in the process of negotiating a much more lucrative apparel agreement and it would not hurt my feelings at all if the University dropped Nike for Adidas.

I'd expect us to see a bump up to the 1.5-2MM range.

Not world changing, but a significant increase based on our recent performance.
Although, the fact that some of our most recent Superstars (CJ & Sammy) have made the switch from Nike to Adidas makes me wonder if we don't just go ahead and switch.

You simply have all of the apparel manufacturers bid....

Nike, Adidas, Russell, and Under Armor all submit bids.
The apparel contract goes to the highest bidder.
I suspect we'll do a little better than $2 million. If not, someone else needs to start handling the negotiations.

The guy who founded Puma and his brother are the original founders of Adidas. The relationship between the two brothers deteriorated over time which resulted in two different companies being formed (Adidas and Puma).

Of course, during the Clemson early 80's Hayday, Pony was the only brand they wore. Pony was actually a very good sports shoe at the time. Most wrestlers wore Pony brand boots.

Look at what they have done with Tex A&M, Louisville, and Arizona State.
They have left Wisconsin and Nebraska to their traditional uniforms.

He's fairly conservative and traditional.

What do y'all have against Nike?

They've kept our uniforms sharp and do exactly what we ask them to do (outfitting, design, etc).
Our contract with them expires the middle of this year, so chances are we'll see a renewal with a significant bump in $.

Our contract doesn't include all sports (baseball being the most significant).
You'll notice any of the big time contracts are to outfit every sport. Once we get an agreement to cover everything, then the amount will skyrocket.
