Had we tried that at all with Shipley?? I feel like most of his runs were between the hashes

Come on man. You got to give our coaches time to figure these things out.

The shake up on the offensive line while also playing a defense that wasn't as good at stopping the run allowed us to do many things that weren't happening when Shipley was in the lineup.
I'm sure Shipley would have loved to see that giant hole Pace ran through for a 59 yard TD also.
Let's hope that positive trend in the running game continues moving forward.

there were some big holes on some plays- the Pace play and the Mafah run that he did the downfield spin move come immediately to mind. Shipley or anyone else would have loved to see those the week before.

We had the shake up with the O line and the defense wasn't as good, but we still didn't run well between the hashes. I believe that Vermont is right and part of it was running outside more. Running inside means the O line has to push guys around more, where as going outside it is more screening them off. It also means that there are less issues with who do they pick up on a stunt.
The O line looked better, and I still am not satisfied with the play calling, but I think that TE called a much better game than in previous weeks.

Only bad thing about that is it would have given BC a couple more seconds at the end of the game. Shipley is fast

Yes, against Georgia, everytime he tried to go outside he was either tackled at LOS or behind

Yea Georgia had a linebacker that outweighed Shipley by 50 lbs and could make up 10-15 yards on Shipley on those stretch plays. Running stretch plays against UGA is similar to running them against Clemson, the speed of the linebackers negate the effectiveness of those runs.

Shipley does not have what Mafah has in abundance, which is vision and anticipation. Mafah also shed arm tackles as well as ETN from what little I have seen, if you do not take out his legs or wrap him up, he ain't going down. His pass blocking leaves a ton to be desired, he looked lost out there picking up his blitz assignments. I imagine this is why Shipley got the nod, but you will see in time that Mafah has much better ball skills and can track down a deep pass, probably better than any Clemon back in recent memory.

That nice run reminded me of ETN! He’s gonna be a good one!

Love what we saw from Mafah last Saturday, but I don’t

agree with your assessment of Shipley. I actually think his vision is his greatest asset. He sees the hole and has the acceleration, quickness and strength to blow through it even when it’s small.
To me, Shipley has looked terrific and what he did against Ga Tech was every bit as impressive as Mafah’s work against BC.
Losing Shipley to severe injury opened the door for Mafah to emerge, but I’d still love to have Shipley in the mix along with Pace.
We’ll have a great RB corps when Shipley comes back.
I think Melusi and Dixon were among the first to realize this fact.

Shipley was running through arm tackles and straight-up hits all game long against GT. Mafah was good but not any better than Shipley at his vision or anticipation.

I've commented here since the spring that I thought Mafah was our best back. But someone above was downing Shipley even though he has a serious injury. Shipley was the fastest player on the team according to Dabo.

pretty sure that was the first time we did any running

all year i've been wondering "can we run a pitch or jet sweep anymore?" These slow as molasses RPO's that get blown up a yard behind the LOS are painful to see fail time and time again. And i'll say it again.. RPO's only work when the QB shows the run as well. I don't think he knows when to pull and when not. A couple of plays against BC he gave the ball and the DE was collapsing or being blocked out of the play.
