Refs were bad. But a missed FG, bad 4th down play call, a pick 6 and a horrible decision leading to the last INT cost Duke that game. Not to mention they neglected to play defense in the 2nd half.

the pick would never been thrown if the refs would have called just one of the many PI calls they missed on that drive

to miss the PI calls without the pick 6 and missed FG.
Point is...they had plenty of opportunities to keep it out of the refs' hands.

they let the game get to the point where the refs could sway the outcome. You shouldn't have to play against the zebras too.

but to blame that loss solely on the refs is BS. Yes, they got jobbed. You're right, they shouldn't have to play against the zebras. But dook had opportunities to put that game away and didn't do it.

it cant be both ways.
Duke was a HUGE underdog.... They had to play great game, and they did. Problem is when the refs are handing it to A&M on a platter momentum will swing.
This really isnt hard to understand

Duke played a great game?

[ in reply to Re: Look I'm not saying the refs did a good job ] |

If Clemson played that same game last night people would be screaming about how horrible our defense is. Momentum started swinging when TAMU showed up early in the 3rd quarter on the defensive side of the ball. Stopping them on 4th down, holding them to 0 points after a missed FG, getting a pick 6.
Meanwhile, Johnny Foosball couldn't miss a pass to his wide open receivers.

How many yards of offense did TAMU have?
Jan 1, 2014, 11:24 AM

Last time I checked there are 3 phases to a football game. Offense, defense, and special teams. Duke played great in one of those 3.
Again, why is this hard to see?

i'd give them special teams too with the blocked punt

& onside kick; missed fgs hurt no doubt.
i don't know why teams don't just give 85 schollies to the O side of the ball? xbox would.
clemson could save 900 large if they tossed venables to the curb and just ran out 11 guys that wanted to play when the other team had the ball.
walkons maybe.

it was hard watching duke's defense last night.

cutcliffe made some gutsy[and needed] calls to give his team a chance.
he knew they needed all the points possible to hold off tamu.
i was surprised to see boone/cutcliffe panic a bit with his run game gashing tamu, the ball & the lead with 6 to play.
2nd & 5 @ midfield to a pick 6 is no bueno.

Absolutely, and you don't have to be blind nor stupid to have saw that. And the dumb A$S reff was standing right there on both of the non calls that were blatant. DUKE GOT ROBED!!! And none of what happen after would have happen. Don't be bias against Duke. At least they are one of the mighty BB schools that are trying to field a competitive FB team. Their biggest bowl got stole from them. I am allorangeallthetime and I hate the acc and the BB conference name tag. That was one game that Johnny FB wouldn't have won without Reff help. The kid is awesome, but Duke was keeping the ball out of his hands until the Reffs stepped in and gave the ball to him.

I agree ... they let a bunch of time run off the clock when
Jan 1, 2014, 11:30 AM

they should have taken a TO and given another shot at a TD before settling for 3 points.
And even if they still failed to get in on 3rd and a foot, going for it on 4th should have been strongly considered,
This was a game where FGs were worthless currency.

Especially at the end. That said, when you hold a 38-17 halftime lead and still lose, you have noone to blame but yourselves.
And while I won't say Duke folded, they certainly choked. Their QB was simply trying to do way too much and it cost them.

it's hurt us with the USuCk game & trying to do too much or everything yourself (Tajh), fumbling, throwing INTs, & getting stripped... & my GOD has it happened ALOT to VT with Logan Thomas!!!

can't blame it all on the refs last night, but that can't be ignored either...

But that guy who came in after he was hurt is going to be our starter next year. We have a couple of four star QBs coming in... but they probably won't be ready until at least 2015.

I'd say, strictly from a conference member viewpoint, that VT needs to DO SOMETHING again to be a better team! when y'all joined the ACC you were awesome consistently & consecutively...AND are SUPPOSED to be one of the key-note teams in the ACC, but have really blown it this season & started on that after we started beating y'all for some reason... i went to a game at VT this year & had a blast, even cheered for y'all against MD with the other VT fans i was tailgating & partying with...i was probably louder than most of y'alls fans for YOUR team just to have some fun, but MD came back & whooped y'all. i had no dog in the fight but it sucked for y'all & having to be around your fans after another such display. we need VT to get strong & win again to make a case for conference strength...plain & simple.
go tigers!

Only thing refs did all night was spot the ball. Appeared it was every man for himself. Whatever insignificant conference they were from they need to stay there.
