the contract protects dabo not the university if

dabo continues to be successful and wants to leave, 5 mil is pocket change to the Alabamas and texass of the league. But if he fails it will be 5 years before we could fire him. Either way dabo will be 20-30 million richer in 5 years. dabo could very easily start slipping on recruiting , fall off after venAbles and Morris leave, or continue losing to usuc which would have half the fan base quacking . But if we win it all next year some team could steal dabo with a measley 5 mil buyout leaving us with no coach. If you want a buyout that large it should go both ways. if the goal is to keep dabo then why is buyout so low? yet it will cost more to fire dabo than saban, Meyer, stoops , fisher. I really question the D rad hire now. I like dabo as much as the next guy, but no coach deserves a 24 million buyout to fire

you still don't get it, do you?
Dabo can leave for practically nothing but its gonna cost us a ton to get rid of him. the buyouts are no equal until the 8th year of the contract.
It does protect him and leaves CU very vulnerable.

they aren't.....right now. his agent even floated his name around last year and not a single nibble.
fortunately for Dabo, he doesn't need leverage any more. We gave it to him. Or, he earned it I should say.

You still don't get it do you?
If i make a 100 mil a year then 5 mil is not a big deal. Only 5% of my annual income. If i make 3 mil a year then 5 mil is a pretty big deal. 166% on my annual income. If i'm a homeless #### fan (redundant i know) then a $50 contract is a big deal.
Its not about equal dollars its about the the relative burden it places on the participants in the contract if they want to dissolve the relationship (contract) without cause.

Then Dabo's buyout should be higher than Clemson's. Dabo's buyout will never come out of his pocket. It isn't there to make sure that he doesn't decide to retire and sit on the beach sipping fruity drinks within the next few years. If it ever gets paid, it will be paid by his new, richer than Clemson employer.

So what you are saying is that Clemson just guaranteed that if Dabo leaves it will only be to a top 5 program? And that if he gets the top school to pay then he will have been successful here and we wouldn't be paying anything out anyway.
Dang you got me.

And we would be out of our super successful coach that we guaranteed a job because we didn't require him to make the same guarantee.
If by "dang you got me", you mean I got that you come across as more of a Dabo fan than a Clemson fan, you're right.

This is the reason for the contract structure

Opposing teams and media having knocking Dabo concerning Morris leaving. This contract ends that talk. Recruits know that Dabo is here for the long haul with or without Chad!
