The bottom line in all this qb situation is there is no

Dec 10, 2014, 3:34 PM

for having a backup quarterback, that was originally the season starter, that can't come in and avoid disaster for even a couple of plays. That is on the coaching staff. We had a gifted player in Boyd and now Watson. They could probably play at that level without any coaching. What has happened with our backup quarterbacks. They have regressed to the point that if the starter is injured, there is no chance. I admit that is based on the Georgia Tech and South Carolina games. Admit our backup qb won the Louisville, Boston College, Syracuse and Wake Forest games. This is Oklahoma and any team with a decent offense, it will be impossible to outscore for the victory. Not to mention, how many points will our offense score for the other team, 14 vs Georgia Tech, 3 vs South Carolina, etc.

Brandon will coach the QBs up, but I think we will see his influence next year, not in the bowl game.

We just need to win the field position battle, avoid disastrous turnovers (long run backs and ones deep in our own end), and play good defense. Cole has had some injuries this year too, so this time off I am sure will be refreshing for him mentally and physically. Oklahoma, while not as bad as scar on defense, is not as good as some of the teams that Stoudt has beaten this year. They are better on offense, but have not been better than scar (granted I think they are getting their QB that helped beat Alabama last year back which will help).

I don't agree with your assessment of Boyd and Watson playing great without coaching. I will give you the benefit of the doubt that this was said tongue in cheek, but correct me if you really feel this way.

I think he meant Watson and Boyd possess natural ability...

that Stoudt lacks.

With as good as we are recruiting, this situation...

won't happen again for the near future. For as much as people slam David Olson and Nick Schuessler for having no chance at being better than Stoudt, Cole Stoudt was committed to Wyoming before committing to us. Olson was at Stanford and practiced with Andrew Luck. Schuessler had a schollie at MSU before transferring and walking on here. It doesn't matter at this point, but Schuessler or Olson should have got their shot with as bad as Cole Stoudt played. I'm not putting down Stoudt, but based on his play, in my lifetime he is by far the worst starter we have had and worst 2nd string QB. That's not being negative about him as a person, just a fact on how he played.
