It's very satisfying to watch the pubs implode

Apparently this is why Cheney went off.
https://www.businessinsider.com/cheney-trump-national-republican-congressional-committee-battleground-district-polls-2021-5
So they are having a tough time coming to grips that Trump actually is an albatross around the neck of the party.
He even endorsed a far right candidate that will be tough to sell in a purple state like NC instead of a much more moderate republican who could have easily tipped the balance in the Senate for the Republicans.
The Republican party is dying a slow death at the tiny hands of Trump

That they haven't purged all Trumpism from the party for their own self preservation. Unless they're hoping to gradually ween off the Trumpie crowd from their placation of them and return to a normal candidate in 2024. I dunno.
If there's someone in their ranks telling them that the moderates completely turned on Trumpism, he or she needs to start saying it more loudly.

That's not how democracy works

Or at least not how its supposed to work. I am a conservative, but feel more represented by "MAGA" than the traditional GOP.

But it's definitely how democracy works. Because the majority of America rejects MAGAism, and if the GOP wants to survive going forward, they better dump it.

Changed my post. I'm mistaking you for a guy back in the day who had a similar name, and he was a good dude. You're just a young idiot who supported Trump.

I agree with you that on a national level that Trump is not helpful. However, I heard the same thing after Nixon resigned about the impending death of the GOP. America is still a more centrist or even center right nation than what the Democratic Party is about.
I would prefer a solid conservative candidate that can win the Senate race in NC, but regardless of who wins the primary in NC, the ultimate election will in no way tip the balance of the Senate in favor of the Republicans. Richard Burr currently holds this seat, so retaining the seat is important, but retaining the seat maintains the status quo.
If Trump is the nominee in 2024, the Dems win. I don't think he will be and with the Progressives yapping constantly, open borders, rising crime, rising taxes to come, increasing aggression from China and Russia and a constant injection of race into virtually every conversation, I think it will be the Dems on defense come 2022 and 2024.

That a New York leftist would have such a grip on the GOP as it continues to plummet and that all of y'all would be willing to let him have it.

The imbecile tears down one party and brings millions along with him to push against democracy while the other party will make more gains and spread their ineptitude and extremism.
And millions of Americans will continue to follow and push his lies. Hey, you're one of em, right?

I'm still not completely unsold on the conspiracy theory that Trump is just a Dem plant sent to destroy the GOP from within.
He is, after all, buddies with the Clintons and all their Epstein escapades.

Yes a New York leftist that is for border security, for America first, that's is for the troops, that is against unneeded wars and conflict, understands the risk as it pertains to China, and is against pretty much every mainstream democrat idea.
I'll take more leftists like trump

But didn't the GOP try its best to distance itself from Nixon and eventually started fresh with Reagan once Carter crumbled?
It seems the GOP now still wants to cling to Trump and the Big Lie.

I'm not sure it's a want rather than a misguided sense by many in the GOP that they need to stay loyal. The events after the election and Trump's slow walk in renouncing the Capitol invasion forcefully should provide ample reason to move on.

The return of rational and pragmatic thought to the GOP will be of great benefit to us all. That's not going to happen until the cult of Trump has been purged.

The biggest problem we all have with Trump, all of us, is
Jun 7, 2021, 2:48 PM
|
|
that he brings out the worst in people, not the best. This is true from his staff, his proponents, his party now, and certainly those in opposition. He plays on people's worst qualities, brings out the worst instincts, and wallows in the chaos he's created while everyone around him, for and against, fight it out amongst themselves. The significant business failures he's experienced outside of pure real estate ventures (not a team sport, really) is due in large part to this flaw. Essentially, nobody wins when Trump is involved other than Trump. Not his allies, not his enemies, and certainly not those in the middle who are neither. Until he is marginalized politically America will continue its downward trajectory in discourse, influence, trust, and leadership.
