on northern and southern culture … I suggest "The Ice Palace", "Dice, Brass Knuckles, and Guitar", and "The Last of the Belles" for some of you unsophisticated rubes.
It's good writing and you can gain from understanding Fitzgerald's educated and literate take on class, grace, warmness of spirit and decency -- not completely lacking in the North but far from a northern staple.
Plus there's some pretty cool Chucktown references in "Dice, …" -- a positively charming short story.

It’s a football game and they are making insults outside of football. I had a uga buddy tell me when he went to south bend last year there fans in his section were like that. Makes me hesitant to go when we play there in 2020.

I am going to the game at South Bend. I am betting they see us and treat us like the caddies at the pool. You know the movie Caddy Shack. Trevor will be a Jr. I want to see us rail them in their stadium.

I lived through some of those stereotypes and beliefs when I moved from SC to the Chicago area (ND and B1G territory all the way). However, once things settled in and I kept getting promoted, many people realized they had made a mistake. At that point, my only disadvantage was I didn't graduate from a B1G university ("Clemson and St. Francis Universities were not on their list"). It still didn't stop me from out performing them because that'swhat Southerners do. One other thing I will say about the article written is that I can't totally disagree with some of his Alabama comments. ??

Rude ND fan was right in front of me in IPTAY ticket section and at one point I saw he texted someone that the game was between “smart and rich against stupid and poor”...how classy...at least he sat down and was pretty quiet after the first quarter

business with the good folks there for many years.
But let me tell you this: there are parts of that great state that out-Alabama Alabama or any other southern state, for that matter. In fact "redneck" is a generous term applied to many, and hence, why I grew fond of those good people a long, long time ago. lol

To your point, I recall from a polysci class at CofC that Indiana in the 60s had the largest number of Klansmen EVER - in any state at any time. So to hear that one of them referred to us a poor and stupid is pretty rich in its own right.

I'm OK with Notre Dame

Notre Dame is a very good school. They attract good students from all over the country. The campus is nice and I'm looking forward to our next game with the Irish up there in South Bend. When you go to South Bend for a game, you'll find that the city is not all caught up in the Irish and it's not much of a college town at all. You'll also find that Notre Dame fans come from all over the country, in the same manner as the students at Notre Dame.
We've played Notre Dame 4 times in our history and we're 3-1 in those match ups. We've gotten great national press every time we've played them and this year is no exception. Clemson fans really do not have much reason to be mad at or resent the Irish. We own them.

I'm sure that person is the exception, not the rule. There are good people in every region of the country and there are ignorant, closed-minded people incapable of empathy and critical thought in all regions of the country.

Yes, because the state of Indiana is one of the first ones that come to mind when I think about education.

Notre Dame is in Indiana. Indiana is home to Gary Indiana, the worst city in America. I will take Alabama any day of the week.

Highly recommend you forward this to Joe Scarborough, MSNBC Morning Joe, Conservative & Alabama grad. He will be incensed.
