Cracker Barrel question
2
Aug 26, 2025, 10:37 AM

|
So is this rebranding actually going to happen? Like, point of no return/done deal kinda stuff? Or was it just a proposal or a statement of what they were planning, but nothing is actually set in stone yet?
Reminds me of the New Coke thing in the 80s. Some rebranding can work, and I get why businesses do it. But Cracker Barrel is so much about the atmosphere there and the feel of the restaurant - not just the food - that makes is comfortable and appealing.

Billboards on 85 have the new logo.
I'm a middle-aged white man who has already resigned himself to the fact that they don't want me or my money anymo'.
So, Waffle House it is until of course they hire a new CEO with funky-colored glasses who decides it's time to de-caucasian that brand, too.
Then I'll just start cooking my eggs and bacon at home.

Am I the only one who doesn't understand how the decision to change signs and decor in this case is "woke?"
I get that there have been other issues with Cracker Barrel in recent years. But, however dumb the rebranding is, what is "woke" about it?
Full disclosure, I haven't been to a Cracker Barrel in years, but that's just because I didn't really care for their food.

Because you're probably not a mainstream news crony with too much free time. Updating your logo and trying to appeal to a younger demographic is not woke. It shouldn't even be news, but our lovely politicians and their news network talking heads love to distract us with nonsense and tell us it's raining while they take a pee all over us.

Found a what exactly? Assuming you are trying to call me a liberal? When I didn't mention any networks or political parties?
Both sides of the aisle are the issue and neither one is the solution. But let's keep arguing about what's "woke" or transgender rights and all the other nonsense these left wing AND right wing politicians lob at us and ignore the real problems... Let's keep doing that.

It's an example of one of the many distractions that take away from the real problems we as Americans face. But sure, I guess I'm just a "woke nutcase" because I think that arguing about what bathrooms people use is a complete waste of time and a distraction? We're talking about something like 0.5% of the population but every major news network runs a story about some trans nonsense every week?

CUgrad90 I agree with you. My aunt is a 90 year old white woman who watches FOX news 24/7. She believes everything she hears on there. She repeats the word woke when talking about things as if she knows what woke is and then one day asks me and my cousin what is the definition of woke???? She doesn’t know but just repeats it because she hears it on FOX news. I have a friend whose parents are in their 80’s and are FOX watchers too. They do the same as my aunt. Repeat everything they hear on FOX. I will see them next week and will hear about the changes at The Crack, as my husband’s co-workers call it.
I don’t get the big deal about changing Cracker Barrel. It’s old and tired just like the old white cracker on the sign. I go there sometimes and like it just fine. It’s not one of my favorites but still ok with me. EVERYONE is looking for something to be offended about right now. It’s really unbelievable and sad.

Yes really thoughtful. You are triggered by this foolishness. It doesn’t offend me at all to get called a cracker. I remember being called a white soda cracker in elementary school. It was funny to me then and funny to me now but I have a sense of humor about it.
This unimportant junk like this is so ridiculous compared to what is going on in this country and the world right now. Just another distraction of low importance.

This might help.
5 Uncle Herschel finally gets his Way | Local News | decaturdaily.com Uncle Herschel was a real person, Herschel McCartney, the uncle of Cracker Barrel founder Dan Evins, who was known as a goodwill ambassador for the company. While not the person on the original logo, the figure was informally named "Uncle Herschel" after him. He helped shape the brand's image and values through his extensive knowledge of rural America's general stores and by promoting the "Golden Rule". His Role at Cracker Barrel Goodwill Ambassador: Uncle Herschel served as the company's ambassador, visiting towns and inviting people to visit the stores. Rural America Expert: He was a wealth of knowledge about rural America's general stores, which inspired Cracker Barrel's concept. Advocate for the Golden Rule: He lived by the principle of treating others as you would like to be treated. Menu Item: The popular "Uncle Herschel's Favorite" breakfast platter was named in his honor. The Logo Connection The man on the original 1977 Cracker Barrel logo was a separate character created by designer Bill Holley to evoke nostalgia. The figure, known as the "Old Timer," was later informally referred to as "Uncle Herschel". In August 2025, Cracker Barrel removed the "Old Timer" from its new, simplified logo, causing backlash from customers who associated the figure with the brand's history and the memory of Uncle Herschel.

And great service with attentive employees, they went outside the brand to bring people to change it thinking they needed too to fix sales, they lost the trust of their customer base with their quality issues and ever changing/addition to the menu done poorly. These changed has speed up the most of trust to their base of customers, they will not magically gain a new broad mix of customers for a long period with this either.

when they Stopped offering chicken fried chicken with grandpa's breakfast. You got 3 chicken tenders instead.
The problem CB is in has nothing to do with PC. The quality of food has dropped to cookout levels but they still charge steak house prices.
This is what happens when private investors jump in. All about maximizing profits. When the profits slump, you pull in the steve jobs worshiping marketeers to try to trick people.

Are there any of these "chain" restraunts that are any good anymore? Cracker Barrel's quality is crap now. Applebees, Chilis, Olive Garden, all these restaurants that I grew up going to as a kid with my parents in the early 2000s and loved, they are all trash now. They were bought out by private equity companies and the quality went to crap. Or maybe I've just gotten old and cranky... Maybe both.

Like Bud Light, Jaguar, and now Cracker Barrel, this is what happens when you insert a white, woke, Karen as CEO. Kathleen Kennedy is another example. She ruined Star Wars with her woke trash. After all these examples, this woman with the black rimmed woke glasses, goes on TV and gas lights everyone into thinking what she’s doing is great. How is this not obvious to them?
They literally have a chance, right this second, to apologize, and not go through with it. Fire that idiot Karen into oblivion, and put someone in there that understands the brand, and also understands that this country is FINISHED with the woke, white Karen’s and their insufferable beliefs.
Do it now. Even the libs agree it’s garbage.

Was just saying that for some folks, it's part of the uproar. I don't really see that anything about this is "woke" or just an ill-conceived attempt to modernize or whatever.
The CB we go to here in Greenville has always been good - service as well. I guess it depends upon management.

Changing the signage on the buildings is not going to happen overnight. It's stupid to spend that much money to do that.
It doesn't remind me of New Coke as much as moving Uncle Hershel in overalls off the Cracker Barrel sign reminds me more of removing Aunt Jemima off the pancake box or Uncle Ben off the rice box. Some woke CEO thought it was a good idea.

The problem is the service needs to woke up. They are super slow. I think they are slow so you will spend more money in the gift shop. The food has slipped a little as well. I will give them a few months and try them again. Standby I'll give a update. Oh wait football is about to start so I no longer care.
