That's great, but the Twit was wrong, we have never been

able to stuff 90,000+ into the Valley. Largest ever is 86,092 for the 1999 Florida State game, the first "Bowden Bowl". "Official" seating capacity is listed as 81,500. Standing room only tix raise that number. Is "The Hill" still listed as Section GG like it was back in the day?

They’re including the other 9,500 that are standing outside around Williamson Road watching. Probably a low estimate

I was told by my classmate (who's mom worked in the ticket office) the Monday or Tuesday after the Bowden Bowl, that was there was way more than 86k inside the fences for Bowden Bowl. It was something closer to 93k.
Back then we used to hand count tickets and had to pay a fine (10k) for every 1,000 we went over capacity to the Fire Marshall.
They printed a lot more general seating ticket (the hill) for that game and wasn't tearing some of them while people came into the game.
I know that to be true b/c my ticket didn't get torn and neither did the 5-8 in front of me going into the stadium that night or the 3-4 after me. The ushers were just pushing up through 8-10 at a time, and then would stop and tear tickets again.

You really don’t know how many people is in a stadium. Ticket takers have many friends and family without a ticket walks in with no ticket. When I was 17 yrs old me and 20 of my friends climbed the fence. So who knows. Not me.

That’s true. In the 1990s I could not find a ticket to our game against the coots at Williams-Brice, so I just handed the ticket taker $40 bucks and in I went.

I can vouch, live in person, that back in my day, '72-76,

the Fire Marshals either looked the other way, or stayed home for big games in Littlejohn. I vividly remember when #2 NC State and David "Skywalker" Thompson came to town, people were sitting two abreast on either side of the railings on every step on every level of the "John". No doubt there was a whole lot of those "uncounted" tickets you all are talking about used that night!
I very much doubt that level of overcrowding would be allowed today, no matter how big the game was. Too many tragic fires have made the news since then, although I have never recalled one being at a basketball game.

I remember a Duke game that was similar a few years later.

1980, I believe. Devils came to LJ undefeated in early Jan., and ranked #1. Left with an OT loss. I sat on LJ upper level stairs.

uvula bball game that was after some other event . . . there was hardly anyone there.
Nevermind the official attendance of the game was a complete sellout.

I had a sea turtle come up to me at Edisto Beach and thank me for Clemson ending the balloon release.
True story.

First Friday?

Seems I recall Brent Musberger as the Grand Marshal for the First Friday parade riding on a convertible Mercedes Benz. Could that be this game when he made the 25 second pronouncement?!

I remember the First Friday parade but am not sure which game Brent made his now famous proclamation about The Hill entrance.

Wow. We had balloons and everything. Please let’s bring back the Thrill of the Hill. Sell cheap GG tickets and fill it up. I’ll sit there!

I've heard that they've added more exits for the Hill so that it can once again be filled with fans.

This game was definitely UGA since he mentioned them. I believe you are correct about the original, as well.

That video was GA in 2013 when those dumb az z dogs tried to meet us at the bottom of the hill. That was the craziest pregame environment I have ever seen at DV. Never seen that many people outside the stadium for a game here before or since.
