2016 team

Lost to Pitt at home, Almost lost to Troy at home, Almost lost to NC state and only won bc they missed a chip shot field goal at home. Then, we won the national championship.
We lose to a really good LSU team at home by a touchdown and the sky is falling? Get real. I agree with the criticism of Garret Riley but our defense was much improved and our team played physical and hard.
This isn’t the time to panic. If we lose to GT or FSU then we have problems.

Really? Deshaun lost to an unranked Pitt team at home, almost lost to Troy at home and couldn’t muster more than 17 points against an unranked NC state team at home.

The Pitt game as a fluke. Do you know remember that shovel pass Pitt burned us with?

You mean the shovel pass that burned the great Brent Venables?

The 16 team had Watson, Gallman, Mike Williams, Atravis Scott, Ray Ray McCloud, Deon Cain, Jordan Leggett, Clelin Ferrell, Christian Wilkens, Carlos Watkins, Austin Bryant, Travon Mullen and 2 of the best backers we ever had, Kendall Joseph and Ben Boulware. Unless I am mistaken everyone in that group except Kendall and Ben were or still playing in the NFL. Yes, we laid an egg against Pitt so losing to a really good LSU team is not the end unless we fail to improve.

The bit difference is that Deshaun didn’t consistently miss wide open guys. Additionally, Deshaun had already won big games. Cade has never won a big game nor will he.

He’s won 2 ACC championships and beat 10th ranked Notre Dame. Deshaun had great defenses. If Cade had those defenses last year he beats Texas.

That notre dame team was way over rated and that win was all on mafah and the run game. We were pounding the rock that day.

Apples to Oranges. This team is not that team, not even close. Nice to be hopeful but reality still looms.

That team also showed its potential the year before..

We’ve been below average vs decent/good teams for several years now.

Your point is well-taken.

It won't be well-taken on TNET. But it is well-taken.

Lol...that 2016 team had a roster full of dogs on it. They would slaughter this team in a scrimmage. One of the biggest differences being 2016 team wasn't charmin soft.

You mean the same team that couldn’t slaughter Troy at home and almost lost to an unranked NC state team, at home. Was that Troy team and NC state team better than this team?

If you are saying a team can play poorly in their first game and improve over the next couple that’s happens plenty. A team can tighten up mistakes and tweak the lineup early. After that it soon becomes who they are unless injuries stack up or a young player begins to emerge. We can only hope Gideon Davidson becomes that emerging special talent. That would certainly help a shaky QB that needs a running game and WRs to make the difficult catches. The biggest improvement needed right now is Coach Luke getting his Oline to wake up.
