NIL/Delinquency?

Feb 23, 2023, 8:09 AM

Just saw about the UGA players being arrested on driving charges. Also Brandon Miller for Bama basketball with the whole gun situation. RaRa Thomas a WR transfer who just got to UGA by transfer was arrested for a felony of false imprisonment.

In no way whatsoever am I trying to judge these young men based off of their young decision making.

But it seems apparent that college athlete arrests are increasing, and especially within programs that pay top dollar using NIL. I get it, receiving a million bucks when you’re 18 years old, and you basically don’t have to do any school work, seems like a dream. But although these are very young people, they’re still capable of anything given their age and physical/mental abilities. The NCAA has GOT to control this better.

false equivalency based off your confirmation bias that NIL is the downfall of college football.

None of this is new. You are just hyper focused on it.

eh... probably doesn't help. If I was 18 and had that kinda

cash hanging out of my pocket I bet I would've had more of a "don't give _ _ _ _" type attitude too. Teenagers can be dummies when it comes to common sense. Between the ages of 17-23 as a male you already have an invincibility complex. You push boundaries that you won't push when you're older, married, with kids. Compound that haze with ready and available cash flow and ego... can be a toxic cocktail for some.

Great summation. Several years back college football arrest tracker sites were all the rage. The arrests continued but interests subsided.

No this is definitely an increasing thing, even though it’s been happening forever at these certain programs.

And when did I say NIL was the downfall of CFB? I believe NIL won’t matter in 10 years as far as how it affects the CFB landscape, recruiting, and competition because it will flatten out.

Even receiving 100000 as an 18 year old is wild to imagine.

100 g's would have gotten me into whatever trouble I wanted to be in when I was 18. I can't imagine now a days how it would be.

I probably would have bought two when I was that age. And then sold them for way less then I paid for them because I was terrible with money.

First for the 100th time, the NCAA has nothing to do with NIL. Second, there is a reason that we get high quality athletes and that is because Dabo stresses education and those athletes and their parents appreciate that. The fact that Dabo looks for character and quality absolutely does not mean we will have kids that make bad decisions off the field.

What, you idiot?

Feb 23, 2023, 9:07 AM

Nobody said we wouldn't ever have athletes that got into trouble... The OP doesn't even mention Clemson. My gawd, you try too hard...

Brain be empty calling someone an idiot LOL

That's like Boeheim calling someone an old grump. BTW he won't see this response cause he's got me blocked like a little beach.

NCAA? Why does everyone throw in NCAA. Their main function is to run the March Madness Basketball Tournament. Everything else is left for the conferences to decide on. They may throw in penalties of losing a few scholarships but nothing more.

How much NIL did each of these players receive?

Feb 23, 2023, 9:02 AM

What is the arrest rate now for P5 players vs prior to NIL? "Seems apparent" isn't data. Just cause your gut says something is correlative doesn't mean that it is. Jawja players have been getting arrested since the beginning of time, and lottery pick basketball players have been getting 6 figure cash offers since before then.

2024 white level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I would assume the opposite is true

Feb 23, 2023, 9:12 AM

If I'm a big company or collective publicly associating my brand with the name of a college athlete I would expect that athlete to refrain from embarrassing my organization. "It seems apparent" that most of these contracts would have some type of behavior clause in them; so, now players have a financial incentive to behave which they may not have had before.

The NCAA couldn't control a bowel movement

Feb 23, 2023, 9:20 AM

...what makes you think they're in-charge? That's analogous to asking the arsonist who set the fire to help you put it out.

They practically created the NIL, so they're not exactly in the business of reigning things in.

Some times that's pretty tough
