At what point is a foul intentional?

Feb 4, 2015, 11:27 PM

Is it solely dependent on time left and game context?

Whoever thought it would be a good idea to implement a rule to slow the game to snails pace and give an advantage to the team who has been outplayed the entirety of the game is a ####### moron.

Intentional foul is no longer a term in college Bball

It is flagrant 1 and flagrant 2. End of game fouling is not flagrant because it is not excessive. So long as you're fouling the ball handler intentionally you will never get anything other than a common foul because the contact isn't unsportsmanlike or excessive.

Thanks for the response, but

That's just it. Wouldn't the end of the game be relative? If we were down by 20 to open second half could we not send some reserves out there to start fouling even with 10+ minutes left?

What I'm asking is, is there a specific point, say 2 mins left, where this is allowed?

If not seems like a slippery slope.

Nope. Its allowed at any point in time during the game

So long as you're making a play on the ball you can intentionally foul as much as you want. Its an awful strategy most of the time with more than around 1-2 minutes left, but its still legal.

They should allow the team that was fouled the option of free throws or taking the ball out. If they did that, the game would go faster

Mostly now whether you go after the ball I think to make it unintentional
