To all of those supporting Portal and NIL payola is it not an admission that your program cannot recruit and develop great football players so you go out and recruit them from another program who can do those things...Seems that the problem we are in now with FSU and the ACC is about the same stuff...they have admitted it so now they have decided they need more MONEY to buy a football team...money drives all programs but now we have simple greed as a foundation!

with a rookie QB and a developing roster.
One season.
When FSU becomes the dominant force in the ACC like we’ve been, let me know. Otherwise it was one season with a great QB and other older players. They’re gone now.
If we don’t turn it over, we’ll beat them and regain our stance as the best team in this league.
One season doesn’t mark a trend.

An undefeated Power 5 champ has no business in the playoffs???
Now let's apply that to a few of Clemson's past few years and see if you feel the same.
Apparently we didn't have any business in the playoffs when we lost to LSU and Ohio State since those games weren't close.

None. The ACC championship game sealed my opinion in regards to that. Fortunately for FSU Louisville had no pulse, but playoff worthy not even close imo. Was not overly impressed with their team with the healthy roster. Still thought we should have beaten them and we were not playing that well at that time.

Transfer portal had nothing to do with our 30 wins over the last three seasons. A miss at QB and a couple of busts reveiver, and the usual cycle that only Alabama under Saban seemed immune to. Our methodology of internal development will pay off in the future.

Granted we’ve only won one of three, but that doesn’t knock us off the perch as the leader in the ACC.
Want to review final rankings too, troll?
Why are so petty and jealous of football? Maybe because Brad will never reach those heights or achieve even a quarter of what Dabo has?
You’re a strange one, troll.

if they are able to be honest about its struggles.
I can assure you that I'm not jealous of our football program. Why would I be?!?
We have declined significantly since our historic run of consecutive ACC championships.
As you stated, we've only won 1 of the last 3. That's not being the dominant team in the ACC, no matter how badly you want it to be.
It's weird how some of you seem to tie your sense of self-worth to the success of our football team.

We've won 7 of the last 9 ACC championships, and are 1 of only 3 teams to win the championship since 2011 (the last 13 years). While maybe not the obvious top team at the moment, we are among the top teams, even in our down years.
Pretty much every team in the country outside of Alabama and UGA would love to be in our shoes and have our last 10 years of football results. Our last 3 "down years" have still resulted in us being in the top 20 teams in the country.

We got the #1 dud QB in the nation from sunny California..he was a consummate dud! It cost us two seasons of experimenting...honestly think Dabo thought he'd come around...it turned out right but only at supper time...ain't fair t o make a QB play wearing concrete boots...keeps you from having happy feet! He will be a breath of fresh air at FSWTC and his dad will like campus as well!

ACC may be all about basketball & CLEMSON!

It overturned decades of exploitation of the athletes that make millions for the schools, the NCAA, and the conferences without being able to accept a free cheeseburger.
The portal is fine, too. It is past time for athletes to be able to transfer as they wish just like non athlete students can

Exploitation?? BS. It’s what you signed up for. No one told them to take their free ride to school. They can pay for their college and get a real job if they choose.
NIL and portal formed and functioning as intended would be fine. That is not what is happening. Now it’s tampering and highest bidder. Kind of takes the competition portion out of the equation unless you are going to employ and then cap what a team can spend.

The facility arms race, bloated coaches' contracts, and record TV deals for conferences are proof of that.
The difference is that players are now expecting a cut of that money in the form of being able to market themselves and profit from it. I don't think that's unreasonable at all, although I do feel sad that the purity of college football is clearly a thing of the past. I'd much prefer for there to be much less money in all of it, and student-athletes be students first rather than athletes first.
I disagree that teams using the portal and NIL are somehow admitting failure. The only failure here is failing to adapt to this current environment in college football. If you aren't using the transfer portal, and encouraging players to maximize their NIL window, you're failing. That's one reason why Dabo's statements on these issues is concerning to me. We've gone from the cool, fun program to the rigid, anti-portal program.
We know we are going to keep losing players to the portal. Continuing to try to replace them solely from our own depth chart is a recipe for disaster for us.

You can all agree till college football is no more...when a kid fresh out of HS with no skills except a game, a child's game in some cases makes more money than a c ollege professor with a PhD then we have a problem...maybe BC & Syracuse are right...we have had a fun time at Clemson raising some football players...fun and money may not last...if College athletics does not epitomize greed then only I have an issue...FSU is suing our conference out of greed, pure and simple...no lie or enuendo is to foolish...they are suing Clemson as well...don't you get it!

Who determines if it is a problem? Any time you either A) buy a ticket to a Clemson game or, B) watch a Clemson game on TV, then you, hierster, through your actions, demonstrate in some small part, that it is in fact NOT a problem.

I like to envision a time when guys went to school for academics and also happened to play a sport. I imagine that they had to get into school based on academics, just like non-athlete students.
However, I am aware that at some point, football schools started taking advantage of the fact that there were no minimum academic requirements for athletes. They admitted marginal candidates, which prompted the creation of general requirements in the 1970s or 1980s which stated that college athletes had to meet certain criteria (e.g., SAT/ACT scores, high school GPA) to be admitted, and certain benchmarks for staying eligible. Not surprisingly, many schools created easy classes so that their star players could avoid many of the same academic challenges regular students had.
So it's probably never been 100% pure, but it was certainly more about academics in the past than it is now.

Dabo has spent plenty of time during his press conferences

railing about his issues with the portal and NIL.
He has said that he thinks players should have to sit out a year when transferring, and he has also said that he has concerns about how NIL is implemented.
His comments on the portal, coupled with the fact that he has never used the portal to get a player other than a 3rd or 4th string quarterback who wants to get into coaching, tells people all they need to know about Dabo's view of the portal.
Guess what? We are now thought of as a program that is against using the portal. Perception is reality, and Dabo throwing a few scholarship offers out there to portal players the last few years does little to change that narrative.
As for NIL, Dabo is not against it. After all, he helped create our NIL center at Clemson and has also spoken before state government about NIL. But again, his mouth gets him in trouble, because he's spent a lot of time talking about how NIL in its current form is bad. He has been very clear about his feelings on players getting paid, and has even threatened to get out of coaching as a result.

The NCAA vs Alston 9-0 SCOTUS de using and the federal injunction that Tennessee and Virginia got against the NCAA pretty much took care of that.

The only way that there is any regulation is if the NCAA gets an anti-trust exemption, which is exceedingly unlikely.
The NCAA has so many court cases lined up against their entire sports model that they don't even have enough lawyers to defend them all.

I'm glad you agree with Dabo though. I knew you would.
I see his points, especially as they relate to NIL needing to be regulated. I don't agree with him about the portal.
Unfortunately, Dabo has a marketing problem. He used to be an outstanding marketer. He was the driving force behind Clemson football being cool. He was the fun, carefree coach who danced in the locker room and was funny at press conferences. We had the newest, coolest facilities. We were getting elite players at multiple positions each year. We became elite, and were a fixture in the playoffs.
Sadly, things changed. Dabo changed. He seemed to become more arrogant, at least publicly. Hubris set in. He made some bad hires. His message moved away from what it had been and became one which was far less positive and carefree. He started talking about not wanting players to be paid. He railed against the transfer portal. Guess what? People started to take notice. Recruiting was suddenly not as easy. Our success on the field was negatively impacted.
I think everyone still views Dabo as a nice guy, but he now comes across as a coach who is against players having more rights and freedoms. That doesn't fly today. He needs to fix his messaging, because I don't think he actually believes that, but that's how it sounds to many people.
In short, Dabo needs to do whatever he can to show that he is able to evolve with these changes in college football.

JK if that is how you feel the program should be ran then bombed would be the appropriate word, but seeing Dabo could give 2 ##### about the current model he may disagree.

Dabo, has, in fact, stated quite the opposite. He has said he is for all scholorship enhancement and nil. He is against players being employees. Also, he has used the portal with offers, but the select few he offered, for the most part, said no.

when transferring. That is not supporting the transfer portal.
He has also been very outspoken about not wanting to use it. "My transfer portal is right there in that locker room."
Is it any surprise that the few offers he has made to players in the portal have not resulted in them coming to Clemson? I wonder why?!?
As I stated, Dabo is generally in support of NIL. WE know that, but many people don't. The reason is because he has confused the matter with his messaging about his concerns with NIL, as well as his prior statements about not wanting players to be paid. He threatened to take his ball and go home if that ever happened.
Thus, Dabo has a marketing problem. If he didn't, journalists and analysts wouldn't have called him out and asked why he is still coaching since players are now able to be paid.
Again, perception is reality. He is suffering the consequences of using press conference time to go on his rants about his issues with the transfer portal and NIL. People took notice. He needs to think more before he speaks. Unless, of course, these comments were calculated, in which case he was very wrong about how they would be taken.

This is your perception. Which is definitely not most people’s reality. Troll.

Everyone who isn’t trying to push an agenda understands that Dabo is entirely supportive of student athletes making money from promotion of their name, image, and likeness. He has helped several of them with ideas and opportunities. Funny how so many people forget the first national commercial advertisement that we saw featuring a college football player was a Clemson QB in a soft drink advertisement. Those of us who actually listen with a fair and open mind also understand that Dabo’s issue regarding NIL is tampering (which is supposed to still be against the rules) by the supposed adults in the room, not with the players.
But some just need to push their agenda and spin things to make their point. Yes, you, JK.

All of us here know that Dabo is in support of the concept of NIL.

As I mentioned in my earlier post, which you seemed to ignore (likely as a result of you pushing your own agenda), Dabo was instrumental in setting up Clemson's NIL center and has also spoken before state government in SC regarding it.
We know he's for it, but his public comments have not provided clarity. In fact, they have confused matters. If he's for NIL, he needs to say that he's for it and shut up. He doesn't need to add clarifiers about how players are making too much money with NIL, or how they should have their money held in a trust fund until they graduate. While these are noble ideas, they are not popular ideas with players who are seeking to maximize their newfound freedom with NIL.
Perception is reality, and the general consensus in the media seems to be that Dabo is out of touch with this current iteration of college football - especially when it comes to the transfer portal. This isn't because these people are mean and have some anti-Dabo agenda. It's based on the words that have come out of his mouth over the last few years. He needs to do better.

“ he needs to say that he's for it and shut up. “
You saying Dabo should shut up is priceless. Go ahead, deny it like you usually do.

Even if we recruit and develop good players, there’s still a good chance they jump in the portal if they’re not happy. In this day and age recruiting great players doesn’t mean as much if you can’t keep them.

As a TNET troll and Clemson fan, you forgot to add:
1) Inflation 2) No beer sales 3) NFL and soon spring league (UFL/XFL) 4) NHL
Point is, if college is paying players and I can't enjoy a beverage in their facility then I shall sit at home with my fantasy league and watch the Chiefs win again.
Go Tigers!
