To get them off campus and keep them out of trouble. Been doing it for at least 45 years if not longer.

Another reason is to have similar pregame player routines for home and away games. Before the team started staying in hotels on Friday nights, players slept on cots in Fike Field House. Isolating the team from campus activities during nights before games goes back at least until the early 1960s.

That's not true. I played in the 60's and we always slept in our dorm, the "Jock Dorm" which was Benet Hall, the shoebox on the end next to Sirrine Hall. We could look out our windows and watch fireworks and lights of Tigerama on Homecoming weekend. Wish we had moved to a hotel back then because there was always a lot of activity and traffic in the jock dorm on game weekends.

Stayed in Anderson in the 70's and 80's.

They do stay at Hilton Garden Inn. And they go to a movie in the movie theater there on Friday evening too. You can see the buses if you get there at the right time.

It's now the Hilto­n Garden Inn at Exit 19 in Anderson.
