Tajh Boyd ranked as #3 QB in FBS

Aug 26, 2013, 4:49 PM

Joe Jenkins ranked every starting QB in FBS, 1 to 125. Boyd ranked 3 behind McCarron and Manziel.

Probably should be ahead of McCarron...

McAaron is like every QB that's played there under

Sabin. Perfectly competent, not great, absolutely replaceable.

I think you put any QB behind Bama's Oline and they'll still win 11-12 games. I'd run for 1000 yards at RB on that team.

I mean...I think it's a chicken or the egg situation regarding their RBs. Yes, they've had a fantastic line for several years, but they've also had 3 first round running backs. The NFL isn't going to just draft guys because of the alleged "SEC hype" people talk about here.

I think McCarron is better than the previous Bama QBs IMO, but even then I don't think he'd be nearly as successful on another team. Ignoring their overall success (which is tough since McCarron has done so well), I would take Manziel, Boyd, Murray, and Bridgewater over McCarron without question. That's not to say he's not a very good QB though.

To detail slightly more...I think McCarron would be similar to Bryn Renner if he were on a different team. Very good QB but not quite on the elite level.

Conversely, I think if you put Bryn Renner onto Bama, you'd be looking at similar success for the team.

i was going to say you liked the dual-threat qb's, until you

added murray. boyd and bridgewater might throw more than run ( and for tons more yardage) but they aren't going to go 50+ on the ground, consistently, either. not like a manziel or a dantzler, either, though. i agree 100% with you though, mcCarron reminds me of an old jim mcmahon more than anything, he just knows how to win, which is a good trait to have,as well.

For sure. This may sound strange, but I think a "star" QB may actually be a bad thing for Saban's system. I think he's got it set up so the offense and defense perfectly compliment one another...so having a star QB may throw that off.

A BCS win over LSU?
