If DJ Has another game like the last 5 what happens?

What I look at what Lincoln Riley did at Oklahoma it makes me wonder. Spencer Rattler was a pre-season Heisman candidate. NIL money, the works. After watching his less than stellar play, it took getting blasted by Texas for Riley to replace him with a Freshman that didn't even play last year due to Covid names Caleb Williams and the kid put on a come-back clinic. I don't want to see us getting blasted before making a change.
I use this example for those that are using the excuse that "Dabo doesn't have a 5 star backup".
Heck, Ohio State demoted his DC after Oregon and put a position coach in charge of the Defensive play-calling and it's worked well. (To the DC's credit, he's taking his demotion with incredible grace and using it as a way to teach his plays how to handle adversity).
I hope DJ puts on a clinic and puts these issues to rest. I hope Tony Elliot gets a breakout game as well. I really do and I think most Clemson fans feel the same way. With that said, Dabo seems determined to dig in on this and not try to shake things up.
All I know is the definition of insanity is to repeat the same things over and over expecting different results.

The reason he wont do anything is because Taison is just that bad. Will taylor is the only one who would have brought a spark, but now hes out for the year.

Taison has not performed well in mop up duty either.

Taison is a good kid and I hope he develops but this board was ready to pull his scholarship during the spring game last year. Fortunately Dabo is more committed to his players than some fans are. However, to your point TP has not performed well and is coming off of a torn Achilles. Dabo has already proven that if he has a better guy waiting in the wings that guy will play and eventually start if they are the better option. The fact that TP is not playing tells me he is not the better option either because of the way he has played, they are being cautious with his recovery or a combination of both.

And especially if the next guy isn’t coming back from a catastrophic injury way ahead of schedule.
Lincoln Riley made a decision much more like replacing Kelly Bryant with Trevor Lawrence than a DJU exchange for TP ...

a productive WR for us. TP is a better option than him but he hasn’t looked great in his past opportunities, is not back to his preinjury mobility and is significantly less talented than DJ. DJ is our guy for now and the future unless someone not currently on campus can come in and unseat him.

right to that title. If he hasn't played Taisun, there is a valid reason that he is not telling us. And, he doesn't owe us an explanation. He will do what he thinks is in the best interest of this National Championship winning caliber program that he has built. We, as fans may not like it, I certainly am mystified at how we are struggling, along with everyone else. But, next time you flip on an electric light, consider this:
Thomas Edison FAILED ONE THOUSAND TIMES before he finally invented a workable electric light bulb. His 1001st attempt wasn't radically different from his first.
Sometimes a tweak is all it takes. Or a little time to reflect on things. Until proven wrong Friday night, I am going to believe that we are on the road back.

I thought I was clear in qualifying my question. Yeah..Dabo does owe people an answer to the question. He doesn't get paid 10 million a year for 8-4 teams and losing top recruits.

I recall many years ago, 8-4 was a great year for Clemson. The only game that had meaning was dirtpecker u. 6 Acc titles, 2 NCAA Championships. All but one appearance in the playoffs. I can cut them some slack this year, not ready to throw them under the ROY BUS. Does not mean I am happy - some people will never be happy!

They are having to spend more and more every year to keep going to games. It’s hard to accept that level of mediocrity from a coordinator that makes 2 million dollars a year. Our offense is close to last in the country. It was on a decline since the LSU game where we didn’t have Scott to help TE manage the game.
Maybe Dabo has let this happen so he can get rid of Tony? It’s really hard to wrap my head around. There are plenty of high school coaches that could have gotten twice the production from this group.

last year. The offense and playcalling was not a reason for losing a single game.
Elliott has been the primary playcaller for 6.42 years. He has been the bulk of the brains behind our success, starting with the game he called against Oklahoma with Cole Stoudt as QB.
There are no differences to point to when Jeff left. He was a WR coach with input into the passing game ideas, but Tony made the calls. Dabo has confirmed this numerous times.
The running game was reduced in 2020, but that wasn't because Jeff Scott left. The passing game was 6th in the country... without Ross. So what the heck are you talking about?

Yeah TE has been the OC for 6 years, and 3 of those have been underwhelming. We won in spite of the play calling the past two years because we had a generational QB and RB along with top tier WR talent. You can stick your fingers in your ears all you want it wont change that fact. If "I" can call 80% of the plays Clemson is going to run from my living room I guarantee you those guys on the other sideline getting paid hundreds of thousands of dollars can too. There needs to be some new material, whether it comes from TE or outside no one cares, but to say the play calling is fine is outright foolish.

Which 3 have been "underwhelming"?
Oct 15, 2021, 3:14 PM

Was it when we finished #1, #2, or #4. Please provide details of how the offense has not been one of the best in the country during the entire CFP era.
Stating the obvious, that the QB and OL aren't executing in a PROVEN offense that even DJ set records last year, that's not "sticking fingers in ears". That's using simple logic and common sense. If DJ was executing at the same level he did last year, we'd be undefeated with the same PROVEN playcalling.
And you're full of crap. You can't call 80% of the plays. As with any team anywhere at any level, sometimes the layman can call a running play. That's about it. Otherwise you never have any idea what play we're going to run or what routes the receivers are running, etc. It always cracks me up when "fans" say they can predict our plays. They only say this AFTER the play, and only when a play is unsuccessful. Are you THAT guy in the stands, griping after every play that doesn't go for more than 5 yards? LOL. You night recognize some plays AFTER it's over, but you aren't calling 80% of anything.
Elliott has been OC for 6.42 seasons. 6 seasons sum up to the MOST SUCCESSFUL period in Clemson history. By far. Not even close. Obviously Venables has been a major contributor, but without one of the most successful, consistent, and explosive offenses in the country over that span we aren't an elite, top 4 program for six straight years. Geez, this is just simple, common sense.
We have installed some wrinkles. I see them every game. But the fact is you can't overhaul the plays when we can't execute the basic plays. Again, when the QB and OL are lacking in execution there's nothing you can call to change it. The design is not the issue, obviously the design is proven (see trophy case). Execution is the issue.
The simple summary is - same PROVEN offense, different execution. If DJ can ramp up his execution to what he showed last year, then the offense will once again be one of the most powerful in the country.

He makes the big bucks to make the hard decisions. He’s making one by sticking with DJU.
Fans have no say in that decision, or any other of his decisions other than to stop following the team.
If Dabo makes enough decisions that cause fan discontent to the point that attendance and support are down , then it will be the AD he answers to, not the fans.
Right now, that is not happening.

As long as you don't mind pissing off thousands of fans and destroying the morale of the team while you are developing your 5 star Sophomore QB who plays like a 2 star true freshman. It doesn't take long to be the next LSU, Tennessee, Nebraska, Southern Cal, etc... who were once relevant powerhouses who are now cellar dwellers in their respective conferences or mid pack at best.

I know it’s a different level, but Furman finally put in a true Freshman QB, and the offense went from pathetic to unstoppable. The kid’s stats were good but not fantastic. Mostly he just seems to have a different attitude that somehow spread to everybody else. Even after getting behind early, they just looked like they knew they would score every time. Seems like a lot of this QB stuff is psychological.

Kelly Bryant lost his hob to TL, so there goes that theory. TL was also given about equal time as Bryant early on too. Then TL became the starter after 4 games.

If DJ plays the same game he has recently and the receivers catch the ball and the OL blocks, we win big.
His play has been decent recently.
If everyone ups their game we are done having problems this season.

As long as Dabo says DJ is the starter he's the starter. And for those bringing up when he made the switch to TL from Bryant everyone knew it was inevitable. Bryant was good but TL was transcendent. Phommachanh is not TL, even before his injury. Do I feel like he should get a series or two when nothing else is working? Sure, but I'm not the Head Coach. Dabo has brought this team to places it has never been, even in the Ford days. Lets give him a little credit and faith he'll get the ship righted.

I must have misread you. Your arguments are a 5 star back up replacing a five star, you are comparing that to a fringe 4 star coming off of an Achilles injury. Which I’ve made the point before and I’m more than happy to make it again, Dabo played Trevor over KB when it was time, I’m sure he’d do it again if he felt TP was the better QB.
The other argument is OSU’s DC? Which offensive juggernaut are we looking at as their big turn around? Maryland? Rutgers? Akron? No, it has to be Tulsa.
You really should have come up with some better points. These are terrible.

At best we have a 2-star impersonating a 5-star QB. He got that 5-star rating from playing high school football. He's been with the program long enough to star living up to that rating.
