Surprising Offensive stat considering the public narrative

Nov 25, 2022, 11:11 AM

I'm constantly hearing how bad our Offense is from the talking heads, however we have scored at least 30pts in every game this year except for 2: the ND game when we just laid an egg on both sides of the ball and the Cuse game when we moved the ball at will, but just kept turning it over. Last year 20pts was considered an Offensive explosion for that team.

I have seen a ton of places say we wouldn't be able to score enough points to beat some of the other top 10 schools, but the stats say otherwise.

Hmm I’d like to agree with you but this offense isn’t great. It’s definitely better than last year but that’s not saying much. I do think we could score on some top 10 teams and we have looked much better in spurts during the last couple games especially with play calling BUT they are far from consistent and that’s not going to win you a Natty. It might not win us an ACC title game if the defense doesn’t show up.

A lot of that has been 4th quarter junk points.***

Just a thought. Have you looked at rankings of defenses Clemson has faced? The current rankings in total defense for Clemson opponents is 11, 17, 21, 30, and 37. Other opponents are not in the top 50 defenses.

Sometimes the road to the truth is so elusive it's confusing and reality becomes illusion.

Was thinking about this last night and I really believe it’s a perception based on lack of big plays. We had become accustomed to multiple 50+ yard plays per game and we just don’t have the “take the top off” receivers these last 2 years. Different look on O without that.

DJ's inconsistency and what you've stated. We have simply lacked a homerun threat on this team the last 2 years (that's a recruiting issue). Ideally you like a homerun threat at both RB and WR, but we just haven't had it (Shipley is really good but he doesn't have anywhere close to Travis' explosiveness). WR recruiting has just been an issue all around. Thank goodness Andre Green picked UNC over us which freed up a spot for us to get Antonio. Green was not ready to play and is being redshirted by the Heels. I don't think we would have been so explosively challenged if we were under Jeff Scott's watch last couple of years.

Go to ncaa statistics and look at QB rating, passing efficiency, yds per completion and passing offense etc...if we`re not in the top 50 we are failing and not in the top 30 we are out of the running...we can't keep asking the defense to bail us out...we do still call it a team sport!
