Should Clemson go back to scheduling a tune up for the opener?

Look at Georgia. They scheduled Marshall and blew them away. Huge confidence boost for that team going into the conference schedule.

Should Clemson go back to scheduling a tune up game for the opener?

Having these high pressure top 10 night games off the rip each season seems to be overbearing. And it ends up being the team that played less like crap that wins.

I know strength of scheduling blah blah blah...but if you can't win those games what's the point. You put yourself in a hole early and your whole team gets let down. Not to mention the physical impact of a game like that first of the year. I just don't see any benefits other than maybe revenue.

Absolutely not, iron sharpens iron. Find your weaknesses early and address them.

Sure, but would it be that much different to play LSU week 2?

And start with Troy?

Michigan and Oklahoma had warm up games last week and have a big one tonight.

And basically any team that had a ‘big game’ last week is playing FCS or G5 today.

For whatever reason…we are losing openers and are not able to score points in them.

It doesnt matter when youre insulated by the conference..

Most of our opponents are tuneup games for the postseason and then we flounder when we play anyone with a pulse. Hence our 1-8 record vs OOC p4/5 teams that finish with 8+wins the last 4+ seasons.

JFC, you’re cherry picking. We’re 12th in ranked wins since 2020 and roughly the same in win percent against the same, .500.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

and again........we're insulated by the conference.

the numbers don't lie. They show how far we've fallen from "elite" from 2021-present.

12th isnt much to brag about, that isnt elite.***

I say no. It wasn’t a problem until the last five years or so. Now we can’t seem to win the big games regardless of what time of year it’s played, so I don’t think it’s a tuneup game problem.

Yes. We have lost all of our openers but one over the past few years. That is not helpful. Most other teams play much lesser teams.

I think it’s all about the revenue. I wish it weren’t, but commissioners want that $. It’s just that simple.

Would preferred to have started with Troy, then LSU today.

It’s not a matter of strength of schedule…it’s a matter of timing.
The whole ‘iron sharpens iron’ thing is not different from week one to week two. The teams with week one tough games are playing G5 or FCS teams today, generally speaking

The obvious answer is yes. The tune up game existed for 30 years for a reason. BUT, no excuses, LSU had to come to our house with new player and took care of business. We’re just sadly not a championship team.

I was thinking about that this morning. Especially since we generally have a slow start to the season every year.

Embarrassing that you can’t schedule a legit opponent due to your staffs inability to get the team ready to not score 10 points in 3 consecutive season openers

We get beat in game ones and then put together the game plan we should have started with. I’m not sure we are helping ourselves.

In that case schedule Furman , S.Car.St. , Wofford , and South Carolina in hopes the 25+million 150+ staff will figure it out
