Suggested ACC plan for UMD's $50 Mil...

Pay off Wake Forest to join the AAC or Sun Belt. Then pay the Big 12 for WVa's GOR. The B12 is already making concessions to accommodate the scheduling and travel dilemmas it invited upon itself by going so far east. Let's encourage this last little tweak and everyone be the better for it down the road.
Except Wake fans I reckon, and maybe Wake's AD. Could it be worth it to them though to collect a fat paycheck or two without the burden of having to pump the funds back into their football program like they'll be obligated to do in the ACC to keep up going forward? It's a whole new ballgame in the unfolding major college football landscape. It could conceivably be a deal worth taking.

but every conference has to have a scrub to beat up on.
ACC - Wake and Duke
Big 12 - Baylor and Iowa St
Big 10 - Northwestern and Minnesota
Pac 12 - Utah and Washington State
SEC - South Carolina and Kentucky
Besides I like Wake away games. I park across the street from the stadium

It's an awesome trip but BC is a terribly poor fit for the ACC.

league having made the determination since that the length of the east coast is their goal, plus a target for larger east coast TV markets being a critical element of the league's long-term financial strategy, the line is set. NC possesses four programs now in a 14-team and is the oddity.
Repositioning Wake would have little to no impact on league fortunes, the opposite in fact if it was West Va. that was assuming their spot.

Have you ever encountered Syracuse fans....

As bas as West Virginia, Maryland, NC State and Georgia fans are, Syracuse fans, at least in my experience, are worse.
Unless there have been some drastic changes since the last time I encountered them, this will be an easy group to dislike.

have a TV market that is already covered by UNC & NCST. They have no fans, a few students, their sports stink, their facilities aren’t up to BCS standards & their academics are middle of the pack in the ACC. So, show them the money. I figure since they sold out once when they moved from Wake Forest to Winston they would probably be willing to do it again.

According to US News, from an academic standpoint, at 27 Wake currently ranks third in the ACC behind only Duke and UVa.

Difference between 27 & 36 is minimal which in my book still puts them in the middle of the pack. However, you totally missed my other points about the real issues with their athletics and how they create a drag on the pocketbook of the everyone else in the conference.

football patsy or two as someone noted above and this would be an even swap, Duke is just too much a major contributor to the league's now premier basketball identity. UConn's program will struggle now that Calhoun has retired and the better Big East basketball programs have all left.

Cup standings, which spans the success of 20 sports (10M, 10W). Now, I don't wanna be a Wake basher... Don't wanna do it, but... a thousand points of light.

So, put West Va in the Coastal with Va.Tech (their renewed rivalry plans today for a 2-year home/away sparked the thought) and move Ga. Tech over to the Atlantic where they would join us (natural), FSU, NC State, Louisville, BC, and Syracuse, with the Coastal fielding West Va, Va Tech, Miami, UNC, Pitt, UVA and Duke.
After that, put a fork in it and let's play ball.

Screw WV jr college I want NoterDame. They have the star power, get the face time on ESPiN, give us SOS because of their popularity with the polls(for no apparent reason) and are more marketable than anyone else we out side the SEC.

5 game annual rotating schedule already delivers a lot of this exposure (interesting that they'll face all ACC teams in play more often than the rest of the league members will, 3 years vs. 6 for some), plus, I believe there's an added benefit of having ND's home games broadcast nationally on NBC instead of all of our games airing only on ESPN. NBC's college football programming is scant so 2-3 times / year the ACC will be heavily featured and promoted nationally over the air ahead of a league team visiting South Bend. That's not a bad deal at all. In the long run, this could also help set up NBC as a potential bidder for the league's primary rights when it comes back around in 12 years.
