1) SMU received the death penalty for breaking the rules.
2) Do we know if he got a free truck, or a discount on a truck or $250 in cash for tweeting about leasing a truck?

recruits and now we've legislated it.
Quote from article: "There’s a lesson to be learned here. If you want sweet endorsements as a collegiate athlete that is marketable, you could do a lot worse than going to the capital city of Ohio to make some coin, or in this case, obtain yourself a pretty sweet ride."
Its about to turn into a circus b/c there can't be any restrictions on this anymore. Lease or own, what does it matter? ITs an arms race now.

Why would he not be a high character kid because he was given a free truck, legally?

What part of "receives an amazing set of wheels..."

do you not understand.
"According to a tweet Sawyer shared, he is the proud owner of a brand new, jacked-up, black Chevy Silverado, and we’re guessing it’s not a stripped-down model. Sawyer made sure to thank Mark Wahlberg Chevrolet for the hot ride, and though there’s no mention of any type of endorsement, clearly that’s the case with the shoutout to the dealership."
So, if the sicko-psycho mentality of "The Purge" movies actually became law, you'd be ok with random murder just because it was legal? That's an extreme illustration to make a point. Up until recently EVERYONE agreed that paying college athletes in the same manner as professional athletes is ethically WRONG. It goes against the spirit of college athletics. Now, schools might as well just become farm clubs for the NFL. Maybe we could have the Clemson Jaguars Triple A team. Is that REALLY what you want?? Do you think that's good for college football????
If you don't get that, then just never mind. There's no point in further discussion.

Let's sit on Tnet and complain about football players finally getting paid for all the money generating they have been doing for ESPN all these years.
That'll show'em.

This money has nothing to do with the TV money that the schools have been bringing in. This model means that the only way for players to get paid is for some well-off third party (booster most likely) to pay them for going to their favorite school. It's almost literally impossible for this not to become corrupt and a pathway to buying high profile players.
If they'd gone down the path of somehow dividing up the TV money among all schools and putting it into a fund that players participated in, I could almost see some justification for it. But this NIL stuff is a terrible system.

Or set up a system where you collect all earned money
Aug 11, 2021, 10:00 AM

upon graduation or exiting school. That way education still trumps signing autographs at a car dealership on Thursday morning. And eliminates the animosity among teammates. This will definietly cause problems. Why does Player A get an 80k dollar truck when Player F is the one responsible for blocking for his @$$. There are so many avenues this current system can and more than likely will go awry.

Unfortunately no Hollywood stars or tech billionaires are Clemson fans. Clemson is at a huge disadvantage due to its location and relatively small alumni base.

So far, ONE player has gotten a car. Just one.
Two teams are changing conferences. Just two.
There's a sliver of poetic justice for the first free NIL car going to a Buckeye, but I absolutely don't think it means the sky is falling & I want to encourage y'all not to panic.
After all, the first-ever branding & licensing building is at one place and one place only; Clemson University. GO TIGERS!

college football athletes. Does the NCAA even have a benefits compliance department anymore? Seems like it would be a waste of resources since there is absolutely no way to determine an impermissible benefit from a NIL payment in the current environment.
