Good win against Wake, but I just saw a stat that they are 1-27 on the road in the ACC.
FSU lost pretty handily to Uva twice. How did we not get it done against them?
Thoughts on the Pitt game. I hope we go out on the road focused and tough. We have 3 in a row in tough environments.

and,at least 1 3 point threat...could use 2. Roper has got to start knocking down shots behind the arch.
Hoping Blossomgame gets going as well. Anyways, realistically... before the season, I was hoping to make the NIT, and at least win a game or 2 there. #21

UVA was predicted by many to finish between 4-6 in the ACC. F.S.U. is a tough match up for our style of play.

In truth, it's hard to feel bad about 4-1...

Best start since KJ and Rod were in preschool. Some things are frustrating, but the good definitely outweighs the bad.
FSU played the game today we played against them ... unfocused against a team that was ready for them. And Virginia is a pretty dang good team.
The upcoming road trip is a death march, and if we reach Valentine's day above .500 in conference, we'll be in good shape.

basketball. And I know we have a crazy road stretch ahead.
I didn't see the FSU game, so I don't really know what we were struggling with exactly on offense. I hear that they just matched up well with us, and I have not seen Uva play yet either.

country would struggle with. After this stretch the schedule is very favorable. All we need to to is keep our heads above water. I'd take a win at home against Tech and 1 on the road right now. At Pitt and Syracuse could be ugly, so what? Pitt and Cuse are pretty darn good. How would you feel if we beat Tech and then also, hush, don't say it, beat you know who on the road. We probably don't, but our D and tempo will give them fits

IMO Brad B gets the most out of this team

WFU is actually pretty young - they've got some talent, but they play a bunch of sophs - they can be inconsistent. if you look at the 8 guys who played for them today - 1 Sr starter, 1 grad student off the bench, 6 sophs. but they are much better than they were last year
we do not match up well with FSU - and turned in our worst effort of the season that night
i think this Tiger team has a chance at getting to the NCAA and a very good shot at going deep into the NIT
the Tigers will be even better next year (esp. if KJ stays for his Sr. year) got some good young talent coming in that should be able to help with scoring
i laugh at a lot of the Brownell criticism on this board. i think he does a great job with the talent he has. already matched the win total for last year... who can argue with that kind of improvement?

Brownell and the boys are doing a great job.

This team reminds me of what the DT position went through the past two years on the football squad - young and talented kids growing up, gaining the confidence, going at it with tenacity at every turn, grinding out victories.
No. 1 in the nation in defense? That's big time. With no seniors leading the way, only Juniors Hall, KJ, Harrison and Djambo the JUCO, and the rest sophs and frosh, this squad is making themselves tough to beat at every turn. There's decent depth throughout the positions, and constant development on all fronts.
If there's such a thing as a team, players and coaches alike, all really playing on the same page, I'd say this basketball team, and the program overall, is doing that now. It's going to be a fun and challenging stretch upcoming with 5 of 6 on the road against some of the best programs in the game.
But Pitt is next, and that bodes well for us. They will be fresh off a hard fought loss and licking their wounds and seeking refuge in the comforts of home. This is the first time we've ever played I think, and I like Brownell's ability to look at things at a small level, hone away at the minutiae, and not get caught up in the other surrounding fluff. We'll play lights out D and frustrate our opponent, always a good thing. The Panthers could be ripe for the picking Tuesday night.
All in all this squad has completely flipped the prognosticators' numbers. Instead of 14th and 1-4, we're tied for 2nd at 4-1. We're a tough out, and now we're getting a few extra baskets per game to boot.

We seem to run and run and run some bodies in and out all game long - plenty of opportunities for the hot hand to emerge.
Brownell's adjustment to keep two bigs in most of the 2nd half tonight at the expense of the smaller Blossomgame turned into a charm, a thorough team win even while some were contributing more on the bench. Some nice things emerging here.

Clemson basketball is currently very strong!

I love seeing our young men approach the net with authority; I get excited when they just pass the ball around the perimeter because I know they're full of high-powered energy that is about to explode all over the oppositions. Rebounding is excellent, shots are falling with precise lethalness, & momentum is being carried to the defensive & vica vursa. Brownwell is not allowing anyone on the court to vacation themselves because that is not how we basketball in Littlejohn Coliseum!
Keep up the good work, Tiger Nation!!

A serious look

We have one top 100 recruit and he struggles to see the floor in the 2nd half (Blossingame)
We are a mediocre to awful shooting team, and zone defenses will really hurt us
We lost a terrible, terrible game at Auburn, a team in the 200's for RPI
Our starting point guard can not shoot outside of 15 feet consistently. Our bigs have little to no post up moves, and we get nothing consistent off the bench
Our ACC wins are against teams that are terrible like VT, BC, and WF
All of that being said, I am impressed with several things
1) We no longer walk across halfcourt at 26 to shoot. We are making a more consistent effort to push the basketball.
2) The teams may not have been that good, but we do have 2 road wins in ACC play and in both games the Tigers had to tough it out down the stretch and make plays.
3) Beating Duke did give the team confidence that it can play with anyone, and cast the FSU game as more of an anomaly than the norm.
4) FT shooting has been unreal. I am shocked
5) Roper has to play better D but I see his shot selection improving
6) Filer is really beginning to be confident on the floor. That guy can really help this team if he keeps contributing on both ends.
7) Seems like the Hall/KJ leadership team is working. Much better than having Baby Book and Milt for leaders.
I still think we are an NIT team, but one can dream right? If we go to UNCCH and win, you better put your Volkswagon in the garage for the night if you live in the Orlando area. I'll be out flipping cars and rioting

above every negative and positive you listed, our defense is the key. We play great help defense and that keeps us in games. Only game we've had this year that was truly bad was FSU. We'll have a few more. Pitt and Cuse could be 2 of them, but in most games we'll play, our defense will give us a chance. Our ability to actually make free throws(at least when the right guys are shooting them) could push us to 2-3 more wins than anyone expected. Bottom line, go 10-8 with an ACC tourny win, we're in. If you look at our schedule, only games I'd say are real longshots for a win are at Pitt and Cuse. We may not win the oher road games, but we'll have a chance. The sum has been and is greater than the parts here, hopefully, it will continue to be

Two things
Jan 20, 2014, 2:47 PM
|
|
We held FSU under 60, that was just an awful offensive game. We must shoot well, or at least do the things that we can be successful at offensively
Two, I don't think 6 more wins gets it done unless they are the right wins. I think we have to beat Pitt once and possibly FSU or UNC to get there.
GO TIGERS
