It was like the Tennessee game with offensive production and no points but you can not compare this team to the end of last season. In 2016, we were shaky to begin the season, but had several warm up games to get going. We will get going so sit back and watch.

two very different things so lets not pretend like we've been here before. At least during our run of 10+ win seasons. The wheels came off last night.

So whats the difference? Looks about the same other than a 6pt win @ Auburn vs a 21pt loss @ Duke. If you feel like there is a comparison to be drawn between the two teams in hopes that we have a 2016-type season, then great. I would just disagree with that bc I don't see any similarities in the details...
We had explosive playmakers on that team and a D that was physical. DW4 had that IT factor.
We arent explosive now, our D is soft other than our DTs, and Cade looks like a deer in the headlights when he's in the pocket.
But I sure hope youre right and Im wrong.

There were some positives from last night, but nothing that makes me think we'll click and win 10 games. But we have enough there to make a decent run if we play sound. But the last couple of years has made me weary of thinking we can play fundamentally sound. Hate to be pessimistic, but...

Once we went to a read-style rushing attack to allow our guys to get hat-on-hat, it took off. We had less penalties.
Defensively I thought we got more push from the DTs than we did last season. Our secondary looked more competitive when they came up and actually challenged the WR.
Again, SOME positives.

And assume the rest of the game plays out like it did. We get 6 points off field goals, and 14 points on touchdowns. Add that to the 7 we got in the first half and we lose 28-27.

For some unknown reason, we tend to start slow and get better as the season progresses. We always seem to have a game that wakes us up. Hopefully our first game was that game.
I am not giving up on the season just yet. One game does not define a season or a team. Esp. THE FIRST GAME. And yes, last night we looked about as bad as I have ever seen us look. And I started attending games in 1959.

And we looked terrible on offense, defense, and special teams. Yes our players played bad but worse our playcalling was terrible and put our players in bad position. Is that better?

Really feel they felt they should have won calling a vanilla type game. Fairly certain they were not going to give FSU good game film with the 3 cupcakes we opened up with.

More frustrating than that is the fact that we were not out talented in ANY of those games, despite what those who think our players are trash and should all be replaced by portal guys think. It is beyond frustrating to see all the talent on the field under performing. That has got to be on the position coaches. And ultimately, Dabo is responsible for those.
Along those lines, Dabo made what everybody thought was the best splash hire in the country when he went out and got Garrett Riley to be our OC. Well, after only one game, the bloom has been blown off that rose with hurricane force winds. Riley Offense = Streeter Offense last night. And Ukelele is gone, we don't have him OR D!ck Nixon to kick around any more. So, do we now want Dabo to fire Riley too, or do we let him have a chance to fix it?
