Stop playing Thursday and Friday night games.

Oct 17, 2017, 7:11 PM

The ACC should refuse to play games other than on Saturday. It is not fair to players or fans. The visiting team is at a distinct disadvantage when traveling long distances on a short week. Plus the players miss class. It also effects High School game attendance.
I’m not using this as an excuse for losing to Syracuse. We should have beat them anyway.
The SEC does not play those nights ( with very rare exception) . The ACC has caved in to the media and the money.

They signed that deal. The ACC had been down for 10 years it was just bad timing.

No...

it was just bad negotiating (as usual) but the league.

Those buffoons couldn't negotiate their way out of their own driveways with a GPS device.

Unfortunately times are changing. Though the ACC has played Thursday night games for years, I haven’t seen too many Friday night contests. But honestly it’s just about TV. Sec has their own network, espn, and CBS. B1G has their own network, espn, and Fox. ACC has their own network on the way and plays most games on espn and espn wants Friday night games. I think the B1G and Sec both played some Thursday night games this season too so it’s not just the ACC.

The SEC has only Saturday games scheduled for 2017

MSU-Old Miss

but it is nice to see a real conference with a real commissioner that can release a schedule almost a year in advance. must be nice.

Ok so Sankey can make a football schedule but where was his smarts when he couldn't drop the hankey on the tarholes and came up with a total blankey and walked away and said thankey!

Both of the teams upset last Friday night were the road teams. At the very least the traveling team should have an open date the previous week. But, I agree with you. No Thursday, Friday night games.
No night games period.

I like night games, the give a different feel at night in Death Valley, now Thursday and Friday night games I wish was going away. I remember when all of our games were 12:00 or 1:00 to accommodate our fans having to drive a pretty good distance to get Home

...or bite the bullet and play them at home...we are at a disadvantage playing these horrendous off night games only as a visiting squad

At this time the commissioners office is in North Carolina, Hishonor is the former tarhole ad, the commissioners office makes the schedules. Last time I checked 2 + 2 = 4 which means we get screwed always.

Friday night. TV does.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Actually they kind of do

Oct 18, 2017, 9:44 AM

The ACC is in charge of scheduling the conference games. This game was scheduled as a Friday night game when the schedule was released in February or March, whenever it was.

Right, but TV dictates Friday games

Oct 18, 2017, 10:01 AM

The ACC doesn't randomly schedule Friday nights and hope TV picks it up.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I believe that the ACC knows the tv slots specifically

Oct 18, 2017, 10:23 AM

Thursday and Friday and then fits the teams into them. Based on that the ACC gets the choice of who plays on a Thursday or Friday.

My statement isn't that the ACC controls the TV slots but they do control who plays in them. I believe our Friday night trip to Syracuse was not an accident.

I can buy that, but do we actually know if

Oct 18, 2017, 10:42 AM

ESPN tells the ACC we want Clemson and Syracuse on X Friday night, or does TV tell us we want you to play on X Friday night then Swoff and band of monkeys pick whoever they want. A point here is, I think the ACC gets the same money regardless so theres not much to gain by putting your marquee program in that slot.

Good discussion.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah, I can't answer that

Oct 18, 2017, 10:53 AM

but I would guess that the spot is open and the ACC plugs teams to fill the conference schedule. I could be way off base though.

I can't recall UNC playing many games during the week

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Conference shouldn't put their bellcow teams at risk.

Oct 18, 2017, 9:44 AM

Clemson and FSU should tell ACC that we aren't playing on Friday. We've earned the right to say that.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Interesting concept.

Oct 18, 2017, 10:03 AM

Do schools actually tell TV if they refuse to play a game on a certain day and time?
