How is a late hit out of bounds, considered a dead ball foul. I am still confused about the rule there. The hit happened during the play.

If it would have been the VERY LAST play of the game, the yardage would not have been walked off, no matter what down it was. GAME OVER once he steps out of bounds. "The game can't end on a defense penalty" would not apply since the game is over at the point he steps out of bounds. (Look it up... The UGA-CU game in early 80's when Butler kicked the 60+ yd field goal, this happened to us on the kickoff that followed).

Pitiful excuse & example of unfairness...we KNOW had Clemson made that hit they'd still have the ball & 4 new downs to work with! There's just no way that's right, if you ask me. But I'm not god & apparently the officials think they are & can make up or bend the rules to suit themselves. ;)
