they likely will not have a chance to win in the 4th, certainly will not lead in the 4th ...but could make us more uncomfortable than we would like

4-2-5 against a seasoned O-line and Travis Etienne? I’ll take it.
What’s the ‘Master of Mayhem’ supposed to do? Stack the box and get burned deep or play nickel/dime and let Etienne chew yardage and clock - pick yer poison.
Gonna be a great year. The only way we don’t score 30 is if we score 28 in the first 5 minutes and starters are pulled for the remainder of the game. Even then, I don’t see us scoring less than 42.

I'm a typically reserved believe it when I see it fan.. esp with a new season.

But even I just dont see it. No way they keep us under 35. I could see 35, 38... IF things don't go well. Otherwise it's hard to see less than 49. Seriously. I think we have 28 by halftime.
GT might lead early in the 2nd. But even that is not east to imagine.
Trevor Lawrence ain't gonna be playing late in this one. And the only way this is a nail biter like last year with Cuse is if we have to put in our 3rd string QB to lead a comeback.. bc that's what CB was starting Cuse prep in Monday. Remember Renfrow was listed as 3rd string QB for the game!!!
Go Tigers

Well, they did say “bold”. My prediction;

1) I’d be shocked if a team that coughed up 49 to us last year in Atlanta will hold Clemson to 28 with so many pieces of the offense returning, TL no longer a true freshman, in Clemson, on a Thursday Night, with only three returning starters and a new coach. Anything is possible but I don’t see anything on Temple’s stats that screams “defensive genius”.
2) since I don’t think their defense can stop our offense, I don’t see how they are leading in the fourth. Their new offense is going to perform that well against Clemson’s defense in their first game, at night in Death Valley?
Anything can happen, but hardly a reasonable expectation.

How good are GT's linebackers? If their linebackers aren't top-notch, they will have real trouble running a 4-2-5. Etienne could have a 250 yards game, except that he won't be playing in the 4th quarter. I expect to see opening day mistakes from the Tigers and it will likely be close at the end of the 1st quarter. But no way will GT be leading in the 4th. It's more likely that it will be snowing in the 4th quarter.

First of all, I cannot wait to get to Clemson tomorrow. I am ready to see the team spot the ball and play. A while back I posted that this game bothers me more than Texas A@M and Syracuse. Ga Tech has been preparing for us all summer and will have some tricks up their sleeves. I have always felt that the bees will be in the game going into the fourth quarter. We will win but, I am feeling the first blowout will occur against the Aggies. I told you guys I would gladly eat crow if I am wrong and I hope that I am terribly wrong. I would love to watch a relaxing ballgame tomorrow evening. Safe travels to to those heading to Clemson tomorrow. Be ready to yell because we need to impact their snap count early and often. Let's get ready to start the quest to repeat as Champions. Go Tigers!

I've never been a sunshine pumper. In fact, I tend to fall on the pessimistic side, esp. when it comes to playing GT and Nancy State. But I'm here to tell you, GT will not keep this game close until the 4th quarter. They are installing an entirely new offense. Remember when we first took the field with Chad Morris' new offense? Our players in the backfield were literally running into each other. Chad Morris was not happy that the Tiger fans actually booed because our new offense looked so bad. And the Tigers are returning, virtually intact, the same offense that last scored 44 points on Alabama.
Yes it's the first game, and yes, there will be plenty of hiccups. But there is no way this game will be a nail-biter late in the game. As the boys in Vegas predict, the Tigers will win by 30+.

I don't remember Morris first game but we also didn't come from a vastly different offense either. Our offense the year before at least threw the ball and used lineman to pull and pass protect. Also we had talent on the offensive side at skill positions.
GT? Neither of that is true for them.

Last year we came out of the gate a little rusty, but we also had the 2 QB experiment going on. This year there is a lot of continuity on the offense from last year, and GT will be running a new defensive scheme. To me that pretty much means that unless the stars align for GT, we are gonna score some points...probably a large amount of them. I've been thinking a lot about Ross, Higgins and Overton as starters and what college teams actually have the athletes to cover those guys. I pretty much can only name a couple of teams, and none of them are named Georgia Tech.
As for the GT offense, with a new scheme and players that may or may not fit that scheme since the were recruited to run something totally different, I don't see them scoring much. I think they'll manage a couple of TDs just because we won't know what's coming and they'll throw the kitchen sink at us. 1 or 2 of those TDs is likely to be on our 2nd or 3rd string defense though I think.

I think it means ETN and Trevor have big days running the football, until they cheat somebody else up to the line. Then, it's Bombs Away, Baby!

If any of these three actually happen, we are in deep doo-doo for the year … like 9 and 3.

With the current athletes that they have, running a 4-2-5 is only going to help us this year. Now down the road once you recruit athletes for those positions it could be a little different. There's not a coach in America that can take GTs current roster and "X and O" his way to what these predictions are. Also, when you have the ability to run or pass like we do, pick your poison. No scheme stops it all.

There's nothing new about a 4-2-5 nickel defense. In fact, there are offenses like Oklahoma that are designed to specifically blow up a 4-2-5 by using 2 RBs and have the presumed lead-blocking FB fake his block and become a receiver in the middle of the field.
Clemson will tear up GT's 4-2-5 because we have a good OL to give TL time to read and for routes to develop and Overton should be a threat underneath..... but if we have a blocking TE (to be determined), we will easily over-power GT's front at the point-of-attack. The 4-2-5 gives them one less defender in the box to stop the run. Once a crease is opened, with only 2 LBs filling gaps, it's going to be very hard to stop Travis Etienne and/or Lyn-J Dixon. They'll be 10 yard past the hole before the defense can see them.
I believe we're going to see an incredible running game against GT and maybe an incredible passing game to go with it. It's going to get ugly real quick for that supposed 4-2-5 HUNH killing defense.

A 4-2-5 is just a nickel defense. Not sure what the big revolution is. If they run nickel and take a run stopper off the field, Etienne will be living in the second level of the defense.

When your prediction depends on a late game fumble you're just making up junk. Clemson is the better team. They won't but they could score 60. Reserves will run the 4th quarter. He's grasping for readers.
